A Glamping Paradise in The Lake District

You know we love to travel. We know you love to travel. Our mission is to constantly find amazing options to meet your individual travel and holiday needs, and we have found somewhere very special. This is where we started our latest Lake District adventure!

The Lake District is very dear to our hearts, the peace, the beauty, the food and the hospitality – in fact everything about the area is superb and having visited many times, we were not prepared to find another wonderful gem. But we have! Let me introduce you to luxury glamping paradise, Wellington Farm with all of the above in one very special place.

The Stamper family purchased Wellington Farm in 1946 and it is now run by the third generation of Stamper’s; Leigh and Hodgson.

In 2003 Leigh and Hodgson took the decision to diversify the farm and acquired a new herd of Jersey Cows with plans to build a café and produce their very own Jersey Ice Cream. Then officially joined by their wives; Gill and Susan, their café project started.

The cafe opened in 2005 where they were joined by Hodgson and Susan’s Daughter Ashton and later in 2013 by Leigh and Gill’s daughter in law; Debbie. This is a real family run business!

Whilst they no longer have our own herd, the farm has continued to diversify.

The café serves a wide variety of homemade meals, cakes as well as their now locally famous Wellington Jersey Ice Cream which they still continue to make using Jersey milk to the very secret family recipe of Leigh Stamper and his niece Ashton.

In 2016 the café was awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence, which they also proudly received in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Recently they installed a biomass system with MANCO energy which now supplies the heating for the cafe and the farm, and they have been joined by Parkers Riding School and Derwent Air Rifle range both of whom provide activities for all guests of Wellington Farm.

The pods are situated in a private area of the farm, each with a private hot tub, BBQ, outdoor furniture and stunning panoramic views of the Western fells. They are double glazed and open plan with patio doors and every amenity you can think of, plus they are designed to keep you warm and cosy throughout the seasons.

This was our first glamping experience and as we were there for two nights, we made full use of the hot tub – much needed after walking a few more Wainwright’s(!), and the BBQ, we also ate in the café and can confirm their Eggs Benedict is delicious!

From the animals who came to say “Good morning!” to the facilities and the welcoming hospitality of the Stamper family, we loved every minute of that stay and can’t wait to go back.

Wellington Farm does luxury as standard! Check them out for your next staycation break – go glamping and let us know what you think.

You’re welcome!
