For the last few months, we have been working in partnership with the Yorkshire College of Beauty and we were surprised to discover a well-kept secret – one that everyone should know about!
Every Friday there is a Friday Beauty Salon where you can book in for treatments of your choice with the private students at a greatly reduced cost, which let’s face it in the current climate is fantastic. To be able to continue with a self-care regime is vital and as an example, a Full Body Massage is £15!
Other treatments available are facials, massages, manicures and pedicures, waxing, electrolysis, electrical face and body treatments, eyelash and eyebrow treatments and holistic therapies such as Indian head massage.

The Friday Salon is run by the college Training and Salon Manager, Mrs Smith.
I was intrigued to find out more, meet the students and to experience some of the treatments. I booked in for a Galvanic Facial.
My beauty therapist was Susannah, one of their mature students. Susannah met me and conducted a full consultation, also explaining what the treatment was and how it would benefit me personally. I must admit this was one of the best facials I have ever had!
Susannah was thorough and certainly knew her stuff, as I found out during our conversations, she had been a nurse for many years in Hong Kong before coming to England and so anatomy and the body hold huge interest for her.
My Galvanic Facial lasted an hour and was a treatment I had never had before. Galvanism involves using direct current to help create specific effects on the top layers of the epidermis to refresh, stimulate and rejuvenate the skin.
This sounded perfect for me and I couldn’t wait to see the results. There’s a lot of science behind this treatment too.

What is the science?
A specialised pre-treatment product is applied to clean, dry skin to help cleanse the pores. The
second part of the process helps transport results-oriented ingredients into your skin. By using galvanic, it is easier to better cleanse and help boost the ingredients into your skin than just by using hands.
Benefits of a facial using galvanic
Since the active ingredients contained in the skin care product reach deeper layers of the skin, it makes for improved cleansing, hydration, circulation, and radiance. Recommended for most skin types, but especially dry/dehydrated or oily/acne skins – whatever the skin care product is designed to achieve, the penetration will give it that extra boost.
Who is it for?
Using galvanic technology is suitable really for any skin type. However, it is not for individuals who have heart conditions or pacemakers, are diabetic, have circulation concerns, have metal plates or pins, have had major dental works, braces or are pregnant. A consultation is required before using galvanic technology during a facial.
At the end of the treatment, I felt very relaxed and my skin looked positively radiant! Susannah was an absolute delight and I didn’t hesitate to book for a back massage the following week! I can see how this can easily become a regular treat, it’s a fraction of the cost you would pay in a salon, the students are gaining vital experience with the general public and you are giving yourself some love!
Mrs Smith told me that the Friday Salon has been operating for many years and is always fully booked with regulars from local and surrounding areas.
This is a very well-kept secret, but it’s a secret no more! We think everyone should know about it!
However, you must book, you can not just turn up. Make sure you call 0113 250 9507 to book your treatment. You will be thanking us for a very long time for this!
You’re welcome!
