Silky Smooth Hair in an Eco-friendly Way

Words by Iasmina Ionescu

Plastic usage and environmental harm are huge factors to the hair and beauty industry – how about achieving silky smooth and nourished hair while decreasing plastic usage and helping the environment? That is exactly what Gruum hair Shampoo and Conditioner bars are doing!

Gruum prides themselves in being cruelty-free, plastic-free and vegan, using natural ingredients that are still naturally nourishing, long lasting and fabulously foamy. They are also made in the U.K and have no chemical nasties inside… what more could you possibly want?

I thought that these miracle bars of shampoo and conditioner may be too good to be true, so I tested them out myself. They come in four varieties: Nourishing, Revitalising, Brightening and Shine Enhancing, I chose the Nourishing range as my dry and damaged hair from years of box-dye and bleach definitely needs some moisture.

My first doubt was as to whether the bars would create enough lather to spread to my full head of thick hair without having to re-apply multiple times but as soon as water hit the bar, the foam began, and it was more than enough for my hair.

The shampoo worked quickly through my hair and left it feeling nourished and moisturised through one single application, it wasn’t drying in any way and the bar only minimally decreased in size showing that there’s plenty of use in a 50mg shampoo!

When it came to the conditioner, the lather was great again and when applied it instantly smoothed my hair and felt rejuvenated. The products felt great! There was no residue left on my hair, my main worry when It came to building up lather was over, and the biggest plus was the ethics behind the product.

Plastic wastage is one of the biggest polluters of the planet and we don’t realise how much of it ends up in our oceans, even small steps like using plastic-free Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner such as Gruum’s, adds-up to make a positive change to our environment.

After getting out of the shower and giving my hair a quick blow-dry, I tried out the This Is Silk ‘Skinny Silk Hair Bands’ – made from Pure Mulberry 22 momme silk which reduces breakage compared to normal elastic hairbands.

I’m not ashamed to admit I’m one of those people who rip hairbands out their hair in a rush, leaving behind a pile of broken strands. However, after using Gruum’s Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner which hydrates rather than drying out hair, tying up my hair with a Skinny Silk Hair Band is the combo for perfect, damage-free hair.

Staying eco-friendly while keeping nourished and silky hair is a dream come true with Gruum’s Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner bars and I definitely won’t be using elastic hair bands again after finding This Is Silk.
