Pure Luxury at Derwent House Apartments in Scarborough

If you're planning a UK weekend away or mid-week break away take a look at our review of Derwent House Apartments. Our writer, Rachel McAlley visited the Yorkshire East Coast seaside town of Scarborough and stayed in the most luxurious accommodation. Read on to find out more.

When you think of Scarborough you usually think slot machines, doughnuts, fish and chips, and a walk on the beach. Luxury and high end accommodation isn’t what you’d initially associate Scarborough with, but we’re about to change that perception.

Derwent House Apartments are located on the top of the Esplanade, where the end of the street overlooks South Bay and the Scarborough Spa. You can also see the bright lights of the beachfront and all the arcades and ice cream parlours that Scarborough has to offer.

The apartments themselves are halfway down Esplanade Gardens and overlook the pretty Victorian houses of the era. The gardens are open to the public to walk through with dogs or to picnic in, and they are well looked after by the local council.

The Entrance

There are just a few steps that lead from Esplanade Gardens up to the front door of Derwent House Apartments. Once at the door there is a safe lock, which stores the apartment keys for collection by each guest. The entry is super easy and as soon as you’re inside the light and airy entrance the hallway greets you as a haven from the outside world.

Each apartment is located on a different floor, and our apartment, called Broxa was on the first floor. There is a lift to all floors, which makes life easy when you have suitcases or shopping. Broxa is immediately on your right as you exit the lift.

The Living Space and Kitchen

Opening the front door to Broxa you’re instantly met with a wow factor. The living room and kitchen are open plan and have every mod-con that you can think of. Technology greets you in the form of a giant flat screen Smart TV in each room, Amazon Alexa in each room, video security system, Nespresso machine and bread maker. There’s also a washer/dryer, dishwasher, and a wine fridge.

Upon arrival we could see that fresh cream cakes had been left for us to enjoy along with breakfast including juice, local bacon, churned butter & fresh milk. There was also bread, champagne and lots of Nespresso pods to choose from. As an added extra the wine fridge was stocked with wines and the fridge with spirits and mixers, all priced in the apartment menu book. Sitting alongside the menu book was a guest book where each previous guest had left a note for the team at Derwent Apartments.

The Bedrooms

Broxa offers two seriously comfortable bedrooms, one with en-suite, both with Smart TV and plenty of storage for clothing. There is even a quaint balcony terrace situated between both bedrooms, with outdoor table, chairs, bench and lighting. The main bathroom boasts under floor heating, which was ideal as it was a chilly winter’s weekend in Scarborough. Magic lighting in each bathroom meant that lights could be turned off, with a small under-mirror lamp offering enough lighting for the night.

The wardrobe held plenty of hidden blankets, fluffy robes, and even large beach towels for guests to use whist staying at Derwent House. Every room has a contemporary interior style with local artwork doted around the walls, plus board games, and books of local photography.

The Little Touches

There isn’t a single negative from staying at Derwent House Apartments because every little detail was covered. A table-top ironing board, iron, vacuum cleaner, eco-friendly detergent, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets were all available for use. And every kitchen utensil, piece of crockery, and drinking glasses that you could possibly need was to be found.

Derwent House Apartments are definitely a cut above the rest, and the service from the manager of the apartments was another level superb. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we couldn’t have asked to stay anywhere better.

We would like to thank Claire and the team at Derwent House Apartments for making sure we had the most wonderful weekend in Scarborough.
