Looking for a Halloween escape that’s more than just pumpkin-spiced lattes?
Rural Retreats has two spine-tingling properties that are perfect for those craving a Halloween getaway with a side of ghostly charm this October. No tricks, only treats…
Wesleyan Chapel, Yorkshire
Wesleyan Chapel offers the ultimate Halloween getaway vibe with its towering stained-glass windows, original stone architecture and the brooding Yorkshire landscape as your backdrop. Whether you’re looking for a night of ghost stories by the fire or a misty morning walk along the moors, this converted chapel blends an eerie atmosphere with luxurious touches. It’s like staying in your very own gothic horror novel!

Built in 1884 with many elements of the Gothic Revival style included in its construction, Wesleyan Chapel is a stunning converted chapel with a well-curated and thoughtfully styled layout that emphasises the outstanding uninterrupted views of the surrounding Yorkshire Dales. Ideally located on the Bolton Abbey Estate, the recent restoration has ensured that many of these traditional features now blend seamlessly with all the modern conveniences you would expect in a truly stunning rural retreat.
The pretty white wooden vestibule opens up into the large open-plan living area with traditional vaulted ceilings that create a feeling of old-world charm and ambience. The dual aspect wood burning stove and open chimney breast takes pride of place within the room, separating the comfortable living area from the modern fully fitted kitchen, and dining area with large island and original church pews.

Wesleyan Chapel sleeps up to eight guests in four generous bedrooms which can be found down a stone staircase on the lower floor. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and is decorated with traditional patterns and heritage colours.
Outside, the patio features a seating area perfectly designed to maximise enjoyment of the remote setting, and the breath-taking panoramic views of Wharfe Valley and Barden Bridge. The garden patio also boasts a hot tub to enjoy with unspoilt views of the Yorkshire Dales and beyond.
The Chapel, Worcestershire

The Chapel invites you to spend Halloween wrapped in both history and haunting beauty. This converted 19th-century chapel still holds echoes of its past, with its dramatic vaulted ceilings and imposing architecture. Tucked away in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside, it’s the perfect spot for autumn walks and an atmospheric evening in, all with an unforgettable spooky edge (including coffins hanging on the walls!).

Exposed timbers, a feature stone fireplace, flagstone and oak floors – The Chapel has a wealth of period features and details to make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Yet the furnishings and fittings are decidedly twenty-first century, with modern comforts like a roll top bath and stylish furniture.
Throughout the property are stone arched windows, with glorious views out onto the unspoilt countryside beyond. The estate around The Chapel contains a stream and orchard, where you can pick pears, apples and olives. The Chapel is set in its own private gravelled space with a lovely cedar wood-fired hot tub.

The owners can organise a private chef for that extra special occasion; and guests can also enjoy pre-booked beauty treatments including luxurious facials and back massages using the Tropic skincare range at the on-site Wellness Suite, along with wellness sessions such as yoga and breath work.
There are plenty of walks a short distance from The Chapel, including the famous Monarch’s Way footpath that approximates Charles II’s escape route following the Battle of Worcester. The famous Tardebigge Flight, the longest flight of canal locks in the UK, is less than a mile away. Located approximately one mile away is the village of Aston Fields which comes alive in the evening with fabulous Italian and Indian restaurants, an American bistro providing authentic street food and the finest craft beers and cocktails, Wine Bar, Ladybird Public House and a restaurant linked to their adjoining butchers shop serving locally sourced dishes. Aston Fields also benefits from a recently opened railway station with regular services across the Midlands and beyond.
Both properties are available for a Halloween getaway and provide a magical mix of cosy comfort with a hint of the supernatural.
