There truly is no perfect way for you to organise everything when it comes to your computer. If you want to put an end to the chaos that you are currently experiencing, then there are some tips that you can use to try and clear things up a little. If you want to find out more, then simply take a look below.

Clear the Trash

If you have a lot of data on your computer that you just don’t need, then you need to make sure that you delete it. There is no point in organising any files that you just don’t need. If you can, send any files to your recycling bin and also make sure that you empty it. If you don’t empty it then you will find that the files just end up staying on your computer and that you just don’t end up freeing up any more space.

Group your Files into Folders

Folders really are the backbone of any organisational structure. They will let you group files into any logical collection. By default, you have to know that Windows comes with libraries such as Documents and even Pictures. This will help you to get a good starting point. It may be wise for you to try and plan out your folder structure before you go ahead. Think about if you want to split your pictures by folder, by people, place or even by event. You can create sub-folders in each of those folders if you want, but make sure that you do not set your hierarchy too deep. If you do, then you may find that you end up clicking through the folders whenever you are trying to find something. If you want to organise your files by type, remember that you can convert docx to pdf online.

Consistent Naming

It’s a good idea for you to have a very consistent naming system for your folders and files. It has to be clear what is inside, without you having to open it. You should also make sure that it is fairly concise as well. Don’t forget that the File Explorer can give you some great metadata. If you go onto the View option and then click on Add, you can then add columns such as the author, the type and even the date it was modified. You don’t need to include the information in the file name if you have this enabled.

Don’t Overlook your Downloads

A lot of people organise their computer, but they find that whenever they download something, they can’t find it again. Unfortunately, whenever you download something, it’ll most likely go into your Downloads folder. There you will likely find hundreds of files and you may not have a clue what to do with them all. One way for you to work around this would be for you to set the path for whatever you’re downloading before you actually proceed with the download. That way, it’ll download right to the folder you want it to go.
