Last year we decided it was time to update the upstairs of our home and we knew exactly who we wanted to use to do this – Regal Interiors.
Having used Regal Interiors five years previously to re-model downstairs, we went straight back to them with our ideas for this second phase and we were to be highly delighted once again. Here’s why.
Almost six years ago, Adrian Frost, owner of Regal, gave us so many fantastic ideas to help us stay on budget and create our dream living space and his team of experts exceeded all of our expectations. Walls were knocked down and doors taken off, making a free flowing, open plan living area, complete with an amazing new kitchen. Almost six years on and everything looks as good as the day it was completed!
Now we wanted built-in wardrobes knocking out of our master bedroom, to create a much larger room and a new en-suite complete with a fabulous power shower. However, getting rid of the built-in wardrobes created a large problem – where to put all the clothes!
This is where Adrian’s superb customer service came to the fore once again.
We had a spare double bedroom which to be honest was used as a dumping ground for all those things you don’t know what to do with! Adrian suggested a walk-in wardrobe which could be used for both of us. This was to prove to be a huge success – but more of this later.
Let’s start with – the bedroom!

Over the years we had grown to hate that bedroom and in particular, those built-in wardrobes. They took away so much space and as we had a king-size bed, the wardrobe doors never opened fully, making it difficult to get in and out. Our idea was to knock them out and create one large room, big enough to take a super-king size bed and little else. This was to be a minimalist, tranquil haven.

The en-suite to this room had seen better days and that is being kind! Everything needed to be ripped out and started again from scratch, but there’s nothing better than a blank canvas and we had lots of ideas. However, once Adrian looked at it and took measurements, he knew that most of what we had in mind would not fit! But Adrian made suggestions which were even better than our own and arranged to meet us at their showroom to help bring his suggestions to life.
I say showroom, this should really be pleural as over two enormous floors, you have every kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and wet room display you can think of, and it sets your imagination into overdrive!

We discussed our budget and chose all elements, including carpets and tiles, yes, Regal do absolutely everything to complete any home project and can supply only, or manage from start to finish.
Our timing was superb as there was a sale at the time and to keep us on budget, we got our wall and ceiling tiles, heated mirror and toilet for the en-suite all from the sale! Sign up to Regal Interiors newsletter because their sales are phenomenal.

The en-suite was stage one of this project and to see everything coming together was really exciting – we have never been so giddy about taking a shower, we couldn’t wait.
The bedroom and walk in wardrobe were converted simultaneously as each required minor building work, new ceilings with sunken spots and plaster work. In no time each room was an empty shell and seemed so much larger. Our excitement started to grow again as we visualized how they would look when complete.
This is where things got tricky.
Each room needed to be decorated before the fit out and carpets could be laid, but getting a decorator was impossible, everyone we spoke to was booked for months in advance and we didn’t have time to spare. There was no option but to do it ourselves.
Never having decorated, we kept it simple with painted walls and gloss to the doors and skirting boards. We did hang wallpaper on one wall in the bedroom but chose a paper that didn’t need pattern matching and I have to say, it all looks pretty spot on!

Thank you to Adrian’s daughter, Lucy for suggesting where to go for wallpaper. We had been struggling to find what we had in mind, but Lucy’s suggestion was brilliant. Another example of the excellent customer care and service you receive at Regal.
Finally, our bedroom and en-suite were finished and we have fallen back in love with it. Thank you, Regal Interiors!
Now about that walk-in wardrobe. That will all be revealed in the next features Watch this space!
