Working from home is no longer the ‘new normal’; it is simply just ‘normal’ now, thanks to the overwhelmingly positive response to the move away from full in-office work by a majority of the workforce both in the UK and beyond. Even if some workplaces resolved to compromise by way of hybrid working arrangements, it remains true that the home office is once again a necessity for the average working Brit.
If you’re someone just now entering the workforce, or someone who has moved into a job with remote-working possibilities for the first time, you will naturally be in the market for a home working space to call your own. How, though, do you set such a space up for yourself that is perfect for working from home?
Choose a Dedicated Workspace
Well, a great place to start is with deciding where that workspace will actually reside in your home. If you have a spare bedroom or box room in your home, this is clearly an ideal candidate for such a space; that said, not everyone has the luxury of such additional space to rely on.

If you are in a smaller home or flat with less free space to work with, you’ll still want to be able to create some form of boundary between home and work life. This means you don’t resolve to set up and break down a working desk on your kitchen table – but that, instead, you consider partitioning off a corner of a space to turn into a mini-office.
Invest in Ergonomic Furniture
Assuming you work full-time office hours (even if on a flexible basis), you will be spending a significant portion of your week in the same place. This place needs to be comfortable for you to work in – which means investing in a proper chair, desk, and monitor set-up, in order to practice good ergonomics. Bad posture can be distracting at best, and actively harmful to your health at worst!

Ensure a Strong Internet Connection
Ultimately, the most important provision for your work is your access to the internet. Without it, you can’t collaborate with other workers effectively or check in with your team, either above or below. Poor internet gets in the way of your efficacy, and threatens your ability to enjoy the comforts of home life as part of your working day. In short, you may need to consider looking at different fibre broadband deals to find a high-speed contract you can afford.

Make It Personal
Your at-home office space needn’t be a completely sterile environment for you to work in. Personal touches can go a long way to ensuring you remain comfortable and at ease – inviting touches of creature comforts into your working life without letting home and work interfere with one another.
