Scrotoplasty and sexual intimacy: what you need to know about scrotoplasty and sex.
Choosing scrotoplasty surgery can improve the physical and mental health of men across the country. Gone are the days of crippling embarrassment about how they look in the nude, replaced with self-confidence and, often, an increase in sexual desire.
But will your scrotoplasty surgery affect sexual intimacy? When can you have sex again and will it affect erections?
Our handy guide can assuage your fears and get you ready to get it on once again.
Will scrotoplasty make it look very different down there?

The scrotoplasty procedure is designed to improve the appearance of the scrotum, by removing excess, sagging skin. As such, once fully healed, your genitals could look considerably different, and this is likely to make you much more confident.
You can, of course, expect to notice a smaller, neater scrotum with less excess skin, but other patients also report that their penis looks longer as a result of having a smaller scrotum.
It is important to note that unless you opt for penis enlargement at the same time as your scrotoplasty surgery your penis will not be any larger and may just appear bigger.
But either way, it’s an unexpected win!
Will scrotoplasty affect my erections?

There are three different types of erections, caused by different situations and stimuli, as recorded by Drs Robert Dean, MD, and Dr Tom Lue, MD.
Psychogenic erections occur as a result of audio-visual stimuli or fantasy, reflexogenic erections are produced by tactile stimuli in the genital organs, and nocturnal erections occur during REM sleep.
During your recovery period, you will still experience erections but will, unfortunately, be too tender and sore to do anything about them until you reach the end of your recovery period.
However, there will be no negative implications for your ability to gain and maintain an erection. The various parts of the brain, nervous system, and the nerves of the penis responsible for inducing and maintaining erections will be unaffected and will suffer no ill effects as they are not touched as part of the scrotoplasty surgery.
As such, once the patient is able to resume sexual intimacy, they will experience no problems or complications related to gaining and maintaining an erection.
Anyone that does experience problems should contact their urologist to discuss their symptoms and their recovery, as they will be qualified to offer advice and guidance.
When can I have sex again after scrotoplasty surgery?

There is a recovery period of around 6-8 weeks after your procedure, during which time expert urologists recommend patients refrain from sexual and strenuous activity.
The reasons for this are twofold:
- It allows the procedure site to heal and become less sore and tender
- It ensures that dissolvable stitches will not be torn or stretched by friction.
Taking part in sexual intercourse before this time could result in re-opening the procedure site, and considerable pain to a still-tender area, and could extend healing time considerably.
As such, it is best to wait for 6-8 weeks after your surgery, or until advised otherwise by your specialist at a check-up.
