How to make Chinese Crispy Chilli beef

Takeaway favourite, definitely one for a Sunday night after a few beers. Chinese crispy chilli beef from Callum Jones from Love Island. This literally takes a few minutes to prep but is big on flavour with a nice kick from those chillis.

Ingredients

  • 250g sirloin steak
  • 3tbsp cornflour
  • 1tbsp Chinese five spice
  • 1 red pepper
  • 4 white ends of spring onion
  • 2 cloves garlic sliced in lengths
  • 1 thumb piece of ginger sliced in lengths
  • 1 red chilli
  • 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 2.5 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
  • 120ml vegetable oil

Method

  1. Thinly slice your beef into strips.
  2. Mix your cornflour and five spice together and add in your beef to coat it in the flour.
  3. Thinly slice your red pepper.
  4. Then chop garlic ginger into matchsticks and chop spring onions finely as well as the chilli.
  5. For your sauce, mix together the rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, ketchup and sweet chilli sauce.
  6. In a wok or pan add in your oil and shallow fry your beef until crispy. Remove and drain.
  7. In a separate pan add in your peppers and sauté for a couple of minutes then add in your garlic, ginger, chilli and onion and fry for another couple of minutes.
  8. Throw in your beef and then your sauce and toss to coat.
