Your At-Home Mixology Class: A Quick Crash Course

If you want to have a get together, then you may want it to have a theme. Theme parties can create fun atmospheres. It’s likely people will have pleasant memories from them as well. Maybe you’ll even have two people meet at your party will who fall in love and become a couple.

If you’re having a hard time thinking of a theme for your party, here’s a tip: contact someone to come over and teach everyone a skill or lead you in an activity. You might have a professional mixologist come over to teach you and your guests a mixology class on how to make high-end cocktails.

Inviting an expert mixologist to your party might appeal for several reasons. Let’s talk about what you should expect if you decide to go in this direction.

Talk to the Company or Mixologist Beforehand

Let’s say you’re thinking about the idea of having a mixologist at your party to teach everyone how to make cocktails. You pick a date for the party. Next, you start looking at companies that provide this service.

Once you find one, you can look at its reviews online. If you see lots of positive feedback, then you should feel a lot more confident about hiring someone from this particular business entity.

Speak to a representative from the company, or perhaps to the mixologist who will come to your party. Try to get answers to any questions you have. They will probably want to know things like how long the party will last, how many guests you’ll have, etc.

Agree on the Payment Structure

You will need to agree to the pay structure when you talk to the mixologist or their company beforehand. Maybe they charge a flat rate for the lessons, but then they also work for tips.

It’s best that you figure this out beforehand so that there’s no surprise when the party arrives and you have the mixologist there in your home. If you know that they charge a flat rate but also expect cash tips, you might mention that to the guests before they arrive.

Figure Out What You Need to Have on Hand and What They’ll Bring

You will also need to figure out from the conversation you have with the mixologist or their company what they will bring with them and what you should have on hand. For instance, they may bring the alcohol, but it’s more likely you will have to supply it. You will want to have the ice, mixers, and alcohol varieties that the mixologist stipulates.

You should also think about things like cups or glasses for your mixology class. Do you need to have them on hand already, or will the mixologist bring them?

Consider things like snacks as well. Maybe you need to provide them, or perhaps the mixologist will. Make sure you have the answers to all of these questions before the date arrives, or you might end up with a situation where you’re missing something crucial. That may ruin the party if you didn’t prepare properly beforehand.

Set a Time for People to Arrive

You must then nail down the party’s date and time. You should send out the invitations and try to get as many responses as possible so you will know how much liquor and how many snacks to have on hand.

You can communicate to the mixologist how many people will come, as well as any other details you deem relevant. You will also want to think about things like music to play before the cocktail-making class begins. You might make a playlist or have some of your favourite albums handy.

You should also think about configuring the furniture in your house or apartment so that it makes the most sense. At a minimum, you need to figure out where the cocktail-making lessons will take place. Maybe the kitchen will work, or perhaps you have a dining room or somewhere else you can set up appropriately.

Have an Idea of When the Party Will Wind Down

You should also ask the how long the mixology class will take. Usually, these kinds of presentations take an hour-and-a-half or two hours. You might want the guests to arrive an hour before the lesson will start.

Think about an approximate time you want the party to wind down as well. Ideally, you’ll want things to quiet down before it’s too late at night. Loud party guests at a later hour may annoy your neighbors.
