As part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, the world-famous three-Michelin-Star The Fat Duck brings back reverse dining. Heston Blumenthal declares 16 October and 13 November 2025 ‘Topsy Turvy Thursdays’, when for the first time ever The Fat Duck will only be serving its tasting menu in reverse.
This autumn The Fat Duck is offering diners a limited chance to enjoy the Topsy Turvy reverse tasting menu, starting with dessert.
On Thursday 16 October and Thursday 13 November 2025, for dinner only, guests can enjoy the Fat Duck’s celebrated tasting menu – but in reverse, starting with dessert before graduating gradually to the more savoury flavours, and finishing with a refreshing nitro-poached appetite-wetter.
The Topsy Turvy tasting menu is, unsurprisingly, the invention of Heston Blumenthal OBE, founder of three-Michelin star The Fat Duck and well-known for challenging the conventional. He has created several revolutionary dishes including the iconic Egg & Bacon Ice Cream, Snail Porridge and White Chocolate & Caviar.

Reverse dining challenges the diner to take a different perspective, which has been found to encourage mindful eating, so the new Topsy Turvy tasting menu provides guests with a particularly unique and rewarding way to enjoy The Fat Duck experience.
Heston Blumenthal OBE, who alongside the Fat Duck is also proprietor of the Michelin-starred Hind’s Head and the Two-Michelin-star Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, said: “My motto is ‘Question Everything’ and my creativity is based exploring every possibility, particularly when it comes to food. Looking at things from a different perspective is a great way to learn about the world and about yourself. The Topsy Turvy tasting menu is the perfect opportunity to do just that. I’ve eaten in reverse not just in The Fat Duck but in many restaurants and the experience is always incredibly refreshing – for the mind and the body. For me it’s less heavy on the gut and the flavours impact in a whole new way. It’s in some ways like encountering food for the first time, and that’s very exciting.”

Heston added: “As a kid I always wanted to have my dessert first, and The Topsy Turvy menu means you can do exactly that. The 16th October and 13th November are now Topsy Turvy Thursdays and not to be missed. Or missed be to not.”
