Everything you ever wanted to know about Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are a surefire way for you to overhaul your look in a matter of minutes. But they’re a heck of a lot more complicated than you’d think.

In this post, we clear up all your confusion and answer your most burning questions on eyelash extensions.

Can You Wear Eyelash Extensions In The Shower?

Weirdly, you can wear your eyelash extensions in the shower, but only if you leave the adhesive for more than 24 hours to work.

So, in practice, this means that if you get your eyelashes done on Monday morning, you’ll need to wait until mid-morning Tuesday for your next shower.

When washing, avoid putting soap on your eye area. And make sure that jets of water from the shower don’t hit the extension as this could detach them from your face.

Do I Need To Sign Anything?

If you go to a salon, they may ask you to sign an eyelash extension consent form. They do this to protect themselves and ensure that there is a written record of you giving them permission to apply the new lashes.

By contrast, if you buy lashes from the store, then the law assumes consent. So what you do with them is entirely your responsibility.

Can I Wear Mascara With Eyelash Extensions?

In general, eyelash extension manufacturers will make their eyelash extensions so that it already looks like you’re wearing mascara. You won’t have to add it afterward.

But even if they don’t, most beauty therapists recommend against adding your own makeup to them. You’re much better off choosing extensions that already have the look you want instead of trying to make it happen after the fact.

How Long Should My Extensions Be?

How long you make your extensions is very much a matter of personal choice. Longer isn’t necessarily better. Your lashes can actually become too long, making your eyes appear heavy and making it harder to blink.

If you’re not sure how long your lashes should be, visit your local lash specialist. They’ll be able to tell you the optimal length for your eyes, face shape, and age.

Are Eyelash Extensions Expensive?

As with all things, how much you pay depends on where you go. If you live in an expensive city, you can expect to pay hundreds of bucks for professional treatment. However, if you order extensions over the internet, you often wind up paying only a fraction of that amount. Some decent extensions cost as little as $5.

Are Eyelash Extensions Dangerous?

Some people think that eyelash extensions are dangerous. But the truth is that they are usually very safe indeed, so long as you follow the correct methods and use the right materials.

Before you go for your appointment, ask the salon what type of glue they use. Some will tell you that they use a product containing formaldehyde. Unfortunately, this can act as an eye irritant so you may want to ask them to use a different kind of glue. These safer options can cost a little more, but they’re totally worth it!
