We sent our writer, Rachel McAlley to Rush Salon in York to experience a morning at this York city centre salon.
From the moment you enter the salon you are greeted with smiles, warmth, and a relaxing atmosphere. Drinks are offered to each client upon arrival and include hot drinks, something cold, or even a glass of fizz. Your hair specialist will take time talking you through all the options for your hair. They advise on style, colour, length and they show images of different styles, so that you know how it’s going to look.
Rush Salon in York is owned by Jessica Graville, she has been running the salon for the past seven years and has an excellent team of stylists. Jess is one of over 50 francisees across the UK to own a Rush Salon, and hers is the only one in Yorkshire.
The three core brands that Rush uses on the hair include Karastase, L’Oreal, and Redken. There is also Olaplex for special treatments, used to repair broken bonds and rejuvenate the hair. Karastase is the main shampoo used, but they also offer a Fusio-Dose treatment, this is the ultimate salon express treatment. It has over 20 different combinations, boosting shine, visibly reducing surface damage, nourishment, and to control frizz.
The Salon
Firstly, the overall feel at Rush York is relaxed, contemporary, and comfortable. Secondly, the main open plan floor is bright and airy, dedicated to cutting, colouring, and styling. Thirdly, there’s a unique back room, up a few steps and along a corridor, which leads into a washroom. You feel like you’ve entered a spa, as its darker, more intimate, and instantly offers calmness. This is where all the shampooing, conditioning, and toning products are applied along with extra treatments. Best of all, each client is offered a head massage, which is pure luxury!
Our writer, Rachel was lucky to have Jess taking charge of her hair. Photos and videos of the back of the hair were taken before, ready to use on social media. Jess then discussed Rachel’s requirements for her hair and made sure that it looked and felt healthy once cut and coloured. She opted for Balayage, which is where the colour at the side and back is integrated into the natural colour of the hair. Moreover, this means that there won’t be any roots showing as the hair grows, and it frames the face beautifully.
