Autumn in Tuscany: Thermal Wellness, Harvest Celebrations and History

Autumn is one of the most inviting times to visit Tuscany, with mild temperatures, fewer crowds and a slower pace of travel. Located at the heart of some of Italy’s most scenic landscapes, Italian Hospitality Collection‘s exclusive thermal resorts – Bagni di Pisa, Grotta Giusti and Fonteverde – offer perfect bases from which to discover the region while indulging in restorative wellness experiences.

From September – November the season is marked by the grape harvest, olive oil production and a calendar of lively food and wine events. From tasting local specialities to visiting hilltop villages: plenty of opportunities to discover the landscapes, flavours and traditions of Tuscany.

Bagni di Pisa Palace & Thermal Spa

Housed in the former summer residence of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Bagni di Pisa combines historic grandeur with restorative thermal waters and is really well placed for exploring the historic landmarks of Pisa, Lucca and their regional events. The Lucca Comics & Games festival runs from 28th October – 1st November and there’s a new Autumn Dolce Vita in Tuscany package: a seasonal wellness escape combining thermal treatments and relaxation. This offer includes:

  • The 2-night package includes a 25-minute experience in the thermal Grand Duke’s Cave and a 25-minute anti-stress massage with Tuscan fragrances
  • The 3-night package includes all the above alongside a 20-minute wine bath, a thermal bath infused with the scent of red wine, accompanied by a glass of prosecco and seasonal fruit

Grotta Giusti Thermal Spa Resort

In the heart of Valdinievole, Grotta Giusti is home to one of Europe’s largest natural thermal caves, discovered in 1849 and famously described by Giuseppe Verdi as the “eighth wonder of the world”. Today, these underground chambers offer a unique wellness experience. Guests can explore nearby Montecatini Alto, a picturesque medieval village with panoramic views, or visit renowned and award-winning artisan chocolatier Slitti in Monsummano Terme.

New for this autumn, Grotta Giusti launches a Scents of Tuscany package, inspired by the fragrances, flavours and natural beauty of the region. This includes:

  • Two-night package: a 50-minute Tuscan olive-oil massage and a 20-minute thermal-mud facial mask
  • Three-night package: a 50-minute back treatment with thermal mud and natural botanicals, plus an 80-minute regenerating face-and-body aromatherapy treatment

Fonteverde Thermal Spa Resort

Perched above the Val d’Orcia, Fonteverde pairs Renaissance architecture with mineral-rich thermal pools. For food lovers, October – January is truffle season in nearby San Miniato, while the autumn olive harvest offers the chance to discover olio nuovo, freshly pressed olive oil. Guests can also explore the Bronzes of San Casciano, an extraordinary archaeological discovery and one of Tuscany’s most significant finds in recent decades.

For All Saints’ Day (30th October – 1st November), Fonteverde is offering a special  autumn long weekend wellness package, inspired the beauty of the Tuscan harvest season. The two-night stay includes:

  • A 50-minute massage inspired by the aromas of local wine
  • A 20-minute Rasul Ritual, an ancient beauty treatment combining thermal water, mud and personalised clays

Together, these three resorts offer an invitation to experience Tuscany’s rich heritage and celebrated wellness traditions. Their distinct characters are united by a shared commitment to authentic Italian hospitality, and a unique sense of place.
