We Found 5 Star Paradise at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi

Welcome to Part 2 of our discovery trip to the Maldives with Sun Siyam Resorts. We recently told you about our first resort, Sun Siyam Olhuveli. This was an amazing introduction to these paradise islands, however, it did not prepare us for our next resort, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi.

Sun Siyam Iru Fushi is pure luxury, five star at its finest. Acres of heaven on earth with sun-filled long days, endless horizons and a place where footwear is not required – anywhere! We walked barefoot the whole time on thick, soft, white sand. But if you’re feeling lazy you can arrange to be collected in a luxury golf buggy and dropped at your chosen restaurant, bar, the spa or for one of the many activities available. The point is, life here is designed to cater to your every desire, and we LOVED it!

The Journey to  Sun Siyam Iru Fushi:

Unlike our journey from Male to Olhuveli, which was by speedboat, Male to Iru Fushi is by seaplane.

If you have never been on a seaplane, you are in for a treat! It’s quite compact, but as a person who suffers with claustrophobia, it didn’t bother me one bit. It’s an exciting trip with stunning views of the atolls everywhere you look.

I will warn you, it’s loud. Make sure you wear earplugs, they do offer them on the plane if you don’t have them.

Take off and landing is exhilarating and all the pilots fly barefoot, in fact they are known for this, and the fact they are so completely chilled out, making the experience all the more enjoyable and memorable.

What to expect on arrival at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi:

On arrival, we had a beautiful welcome with traditional music, and welcome gift of a huge silk lotus flower which was placed gently in my hair  (I still have this on my desk as a reminder).

Our butler (yes you heard that correctly), Naveen, introduced himself to us over very welcome cool drinks and offered us cold, damp cloths to refresh ourselves while he explained that he was at our disposal 24 hours a day during our stay. Naveen gave us his WhatsApp number (so we could stay in touch in case we needed anything), and the Wi-Fi password (essential for us as we need to work from wherever we are in the world!).

He then took us on a golf buggy tour of the resort, before being taken to our stunning Deluxe Beach Villa with Pool. Naveen was an absolute star, nothing was too much trouble.

Our accommodation at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi:

This is where I have to admit that our accommodation literally took our breath away. Stunning just does not do it justice.

This Deluxe Beach Villa featured an oversized outdoor terrace and garden, private cabana and day bed, and a large private pool. That’s not all, following our garden beyond the cabana, we discovered our own section of the most beautiful beach with two deckchairs ready and waiting.

Yes, this is what paradise looks like.

Inside we had a king size bed with a personalised welcome message crafted from Palm leaves, a wonderful Maldivian tradition. The bathroom was outside to the rear of the villa, with a large rain shower, separate toilet, jacuzzi bath and another day bed.

We did not want to leave this villa – ever!

Food and drink at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi:

With 14 restaurants and bars, variety is definitely the spice of life at this resort!

Iru Restaurant – this is where you will find spectacular buffet style food. We ate breakfast here each morning and the choice was incredible. Fresh fruits, some we had never seen before and of course we had to try. Smoothies, full English breakfast items, cheeses, meats, fresh breads and pastries.

We really must mention the Maldivian breakfast corner too, which consists of Chapati, Maldivian Curries, Mashuni (tuna and grated coconut), Mashuni Koopefaiy (tuna, grated coconut, and koope leaves) and condiments of grated coconut, Maldivian chilis, sliced onions and lime wedges. The list goes on.

You can also eat here for lunch and dinner, the selection at each were superb.

Islander’s Grill – we had the most delicious meal here, dining at a table on the beach, listening to the gentle waves of the Indian Ocean washing onto that perfect beach.

If you enjoy seafood, do not miss this restaurant!

Fresh seafood served Maldivian style, is without doubt the best seafood we have eaten anywhere in the world. The Maldivian Crab was sensational. This relaxed beachfront venue also plays host to weekly barbecues and special dining events so keep an eye on what’s going on.

Bamboo – is an intimate beach terrace restaurant specializing in Southeast Asian cuisine, from Laksa Soup to Hainan Chicken. The extensive menu also features noodles, curries, fragrant salads and a wide choice of vegetarian options. The dishes we chose were amazing, but – be warned the Maldivians like their food hot! Spicy hot, so make sure that the dishes you order are to your taste.

What to do at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi:

Spa and Wellness – we found the spa at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi to be a haven of calm and tranquillity. Combining timeless wisdom with a contemporary approach, the practitioners specialise in traditional massage and world-renowned wellness practices. Signature treatments are offered across the spa’s 20 rooms, as well as hydrotherapy pools, steam rooms and saunas.

I chose to indulge in the Ladies Organic Facial. It was a decadent, relaxing and very luxurious experience. The only sound was of the trickling water features, of which there are many at the spa, making it a truly relaxing time out and one I would have happily indulged in every day of our stay.

Dive Centre – you can collect your snorkelling gear at the beginning of your holiday and keep it with you throughout your stay. Whether you are a novice or experienced, there’s scuba diving courses run by the SSI dive centre, perfect for you and your level.  Dive sites include the house reef, ship-wrecks on neighbouring atolls and dive sites where there are frequent sightings of Manta Rays, White Tip Reef Sharks and an abundance of Turtles.

Dolphin Sunset Cruise – this is a must. Don’t worry that you might not see any dolphins, the guides know exactly where to go and how to attract them. You will see a lot! Keep your cameras at the ready to capture these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat and their acrobatic display around the boat. Make sure you book this trip – you won’t be disappointed.

Craft Classes – channel your artistic side using produce sourced straight from the island. Transform palm leaves, shells or wood into your very own creation, or celebrate the versatility of coconut and take home a handmade basket, sun hat or fan.

Finding Nemo – swim amongst hundreds of clownfish in their natural habitat for the ultimate photo opportunity. Find your very own nemo in the crystal clear waters that inspired the film, then sit back and relax as you watch ocean life swim by.

Thanburudhoo Venture – sail to a nearby uninhabited island. Perfect for adventure seekers, discover your own private paradise and spend the day snorkelling and spotting wildlife, before enjoying a beachfront lunch under the sun.
