Pyramids of Giza
Located on the outskirts of Cairo, the pyramids were built to last for an eternity. That’s happened too, as you can still see them today. Some of them are over 4,500 years old. The logistics of how they were assembled are still a mystery. Next to them you also have the Great Sphinx. This is one of the most recognisable remains of Egypt, and there you will find a giant limescale structure. It’s thought that this was carved out of a mass of limestone and the origins of this are still being debated. Karnak Temple
Another location you do not want to miss would be Karnak Temple. This boasts some of the most astonishing sites out there and believe it or not, it is the biggest open-air museum in the world. There you will see a temple that is dedicated to the gods, Khonsu, Mut and Amun. It’s one of the biggest buildings to ever be made and right outside the temple, you will also find that there is the Avenue of the Sphinxes. The road was once linked to the Luxor temple and it is not one to be missed.
Valley of the Kings
If you want to explore the history of ancient Egypt then one thing you should try and do is check out the Valley of the Kings. This is a burial site that houses a range of pharaohs. It’s also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you visit this location then you will soon find that the tombs were cut into the rock within the valley and then buried underground. There you will find 63 different tombs, and each of them has its distinctive imagery. They were sealed with a range of treasures and shrines to try and help the king as they moved into the afterlife. The most famous tomb here would be the one that houses King Tutankhamun. It was excavated in the year 1922 and to this date, it stands as one of the most famous tombs around. A lot of tours go around this area, so be sure to look into them if you want to have a good experience when in Egypt for your next vacation, it’s not to be missed.
