The Road Trip Renaissance: Goboony unlocks a new era of motorhome travel

A rental platform connecting travellers with 25,000+ vehicles across the UK and Europe is helping fuel the growing demand for slower, more flexible road-trip travel.

Goboony, the ‘Airbnb-style’ campervan and motorhome rental platform, is helping travellers discover a new way to explore. As demand grows for slower, more meaningful travel, the platform connects travellers with specific vehicles to suit personal style preferences across the UK and Europe.

Goboony motorhome hire

Founded in 2015 by two motorhome owners who wanted to make better use of their vehicles, Goboony allows owners to rent out their campervans and motorhomes while helping travellers experience the freedom of life on the open road.

Today, the platform hosts more than 25,000 vehicles and has enabled 1.7 million people to travel across the UK and Europe, including the Netherlands, Italy, France, Germany and Belgium

Unlike traditional motorhome rental companies, which operate large depots with identical vehicles, Goboony connects travellers directly with private owners. The result is a far more personal and flexible way to travel, with vehicles ranging from family-friendly campervans to fully equipped off-grid motorhomes for any occasion.

Many listings come with features designed for modern road-trip adventures, including solar power for off-grid travel, hot water, outdoor cooking setups, dog-friendly layouts and spacious family sleeping areas. Travellers can choose a vehicle that suits their style of adventure, whether it’s a coastal road trip, countryside escape or a multi-country European journey.

Motorhome travel is booming as travellers increasingly look for ways to disconnect from busy digital lives and spend more time outdoors with family and friends. Road trips allow travellers to uncover hidden gems across the UK, wake up beside beaches or national parks, and explore destinations at their own pace.

While 91% of bookings currently remain domestic in the UK, cross-border travel is growing as more travellers combine flights with campervan hire to explore destinations across Europe.

“Motorhome travel gives people the freedom to experience destinations in a completely different way,” says Foppe Mijnlieff: CEO & Cofounder Goboony. “You can wake up beside the sea one morning, drive into the countryside the next, and travel at your own pace while discovering places you might otherwise never visit.”

The platform is also part of the growing sharing economy, helping motorhome owners earn additional income by renting out vehicles when they are not in use. With a rapidly growing community across Europe, Goboony’s mission is simple – to help more people experience the freedom of a motorhome holiday.

About Goboony

Inspired by Airbnb, Mark de Vos and Foppe Mijnlieff founded Goboony in 2015 to bring together the motorhome and campervan community. The digital platform allows motorhome owners to rent out their vehicles and helps travellers experience the freedom of road-trip travel. The name Goboony was inspired by the New Zealand term “boonies”, which refers to remote, unspoilt places – reflecting the spirit of adventure and exploration at the heart of the platform. Its motto, ‘Share the freedom’, reflects the belief that motorhomes shouldn’t sit idle, but instead become gateways to adventure. With a focus on community and the circular economy, Goboony aims to turn every motorhome into an opportunity for adventure.
