Rounton Villa by Maison Parfaite: The only way to do Robin Hood’s Bay

Blissful views of the dramatic Yorkshire coastline, ultra-swag décor, and an irresistibly cosy yet stylish open-plan social space make Rounton Villa the quintessential Robin Hood’s Bay staycation spot.

Words by Jordan Fletcher

We spent a weekend in this newly kitted out Victorian villa, soaking up the salty sea air and laidback vibe that has made this sleepy fishing village so beloved.

Robin Hoods Bay is a brisk 1-hour 45-minute drive from Leeds, and for someone like me, that spent the best part of 2020 going stir crazy in a city centre apartment, a complete breath of fresh air. With its quaint cottages, upmarket restaurants, traditional pubs, and brooding cliffs, it has an old-world charm that is hard to resist.

Located just around the corner from all the action, Rounton Villa is split into two separate holiday homes and takes its name from a ship owned by the previous owner, a former sea captain. On the ground floor, Neptune Villa houses two king-size bedrooms and a designer kitchen complete with wine chiller.

The large open-plan living area features a dining area and bi-fold doors which overlook the private garden, complete with hot tub and barbecue area. It’s the ideal getaway for a celebration, romance, or some downtime.

The first and second floor of the villa is occupied by The Captain’s Residence, which is where we spent our weekend. With its private entrance on the ground floor, this villa can sleep up to 10 with four double bedrooms (one with two single beds) and a pull-out sofa bed in the lounge.

As you would expect from Maison Parfaite, each bedroom provides the ultimate in comfort. Think winged velvet ultra-cosy beds, sumptuous lighting, and beautiful antique furniture full of character. The bathrooms too are equally as dreamy. One includes a glorious freestanding clawfoot tub, and the other a large walk-in shower you won’t want to step out of.

The centrepiece of the property, however, is the swish open-plan dining, lounge, and kitchen. Offering an eye-popping vista of the bay itself, it’s a space designed with socialising in mind. Whether you gather around the kitchen table to mix up some mean cocktail creations or chill on the couches for the ultimate movie night, it’s got everything you need to entertain.

The perfect mix of modern and vintage glamour, highlights include a beautiful tropical print sofa adorned with all manner of wildlife, a gold balloon dog lamp and high-spec kitchen appliances and accessories. It’s design porn at its very finest.

As well as offering a wealth of local attractions, there’s plenty to explore nearby. Whitby is just a few miles away should you wish to go grab their infamous fish and chips or seek out the history of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

As our stay landed on a typically British weekend (e.g. wet, cold, and windy), we didn’t stray too far from our villa other than to walk the dog, but this was fine by us. The Captain’s Residence is an absolute gem of a holiday home and can be hired on its own, or alongside Neptune Villa for large parties. If you’re planning a trip to Robin Hood’s Bay, you won’t find anywhere else quite like Rounton Villa. We can’t wait to see what’s next on the horizon for Maison Parfaite, who are fast becoming one of the UK’s hottest property independents.
