Relax At The Wonderful Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa

Ever thought of taking time out for yourself at a spa day? You don't have to stay overnight to visit a spa hotel. You can swim, enjoy a hot tub, and relax over lunch at a spa day experience without having to stay over.

Our writer, Rachel McAlley recently spent the day at Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa in Leeds for some much-needed pampering.

I arrived at 10am with a friend, who had never been to a spa before. She had so many questions prior to visiting Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa about everything from what to wear, to what happens at a spa! It was a great opportunity for me to see a spa through the eyes of someone who has never experienced it before.

We were booked for the ‘Taste of Summer Experience’, which included 3 hours in the pool and thermal rooms. It also included a 35-minute TEMPLESPA treatment, 2-course lunch, and a beautiful candle to take home.

Once we changed in the changing rooms we headed straight to the pool for a swim. There were already quite a few people enjoying the pool and the loungers, so we made a beeline for the hot tub. We felt the weight of the world lift off our shoulders within half an hour, which was a wonderful feeling.

As some of the swimmers left the pool, we took the opportunity have a swim and a natter. We spent more time chatting than swimming, but that’s okay because it was just lovely being at the spa. After checking the clock we realised that our treatment appointments were only a short time away, so we headed for the relaxation lounge.

The relaxation lounge is a calming place to unwind, with complimentary water and flavoured teas to sip. Filled with comfy beds, squishy sofas, and soft throws, the lounge was perfect to hang out prior to our treatments.

We were both booked for a shoulder and scalp massage with separate beauty therapists. Therefore, we headed in to our rooms for 35-minutes of pure luxury. My beauty therapist explained in detail about the TEMPLESPA products that she used on my head and shoulders. She also gave me a card with the product info in case I wanted to purchase after the treatment.

My friend had also never enjoyed a massage before, so this was the ultimate in treats for her, she was blown away by the beauty therapist’s knowledge.

We both left our massages even more relaxed, and continued our morning in the relaxation lounge again. After almost falling asleep in pure comfort it was lunchtime, so we headed down to the poolside restaurant for a nutritious meal.

Lunch was offered from a 2-course special menu. We both opted for mushroom soup followed by grilled haloumi open sandwich with sweet chilli sauce. The food was really tasty especially the homemade Mushroom soup, which came with a huge chunk of crusty bread and butter. We noticed a number of guests also enjoying the fish & chips option, which looked delicous.

After lunch and with very full tummies, we took the decision to shower, get dressed, and enjoy a drink in the bar before heading home to the mayhem that is normal life!

The question is though, will my friend ever return to a spa in the future? Of course she will, and at the tender age of 40 she has already planned her next spa day.

The ‘Taste of Summer Experience’ was priced at £99 per person and included everything mentioned above aside from drinks, which were paid for separately.

Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa regularly have spa day offers, which they change seasonally. Visit the website to find out more about packages, experiences, and general spa day offers.
