Do you have a place you just love to visit, a place where the moment you sit in the car and start your journey you just feel all the stress leave your body and you start to breathe normally?
We do, The Lake District. We love everything about the area and it’s a place where we can completely switch off and recharge the batteries fully.
On our most recent visit, we stayed at two fantastic hotels, completely different from each other and each with its own unique charm. A warm welcome awaited at our the first one, the Beech Hill Hotel & Spa.
This is a place where stunning views, superb food and careful consideration for your every comfort combine to define what is Windermere`s most distinctive 4 Star hotel. On the shores of one of the Lake District`s most beautiful locations, you`re free to indulge yourself fully in all that Beech Hill has to offer.
From the eastern bank of Windermere, the dramatic views across the lake to the Western Fells are nothing short of breath-taking. This constantly changing scene serves as a living picture postcard of this most beautiful countryside.
Beech Hill has 55 bedrooms – some have private balconies or access to the garden, you simply open the glass doors, breathe in the fresh Cumbrian air and enjoy the unrivalled views of Windermere.
If you can put the fabulous views over Windermere to one side for a moment, the undoubted jewel in their crown is Burlington’s Restaurant. Highly regarded by local people, and fondly remembered by all who have dined there.
Burlington’s has held AA rosettes for the last 20 years demonstrating their commitment and dedication to sourcing only the freshest, finest, local produce and ingredients to provide their guests with a great dining experience.
Our own dining experience started as we enjoyed a drink in the lounge and a selection of fresh canapés were delivered to enjoy as we mulled over the menus.
We chose starters of Mackerel with beetroot with a shallot dressing and Ham Terrine with Quails Egg, Apple and Toast. As usual, we sampled each other’s and agreed that we could not choose a favourite. The mackerel was perfectly cooked and full of delicate flavour, the terrine was a delicious flavour combination combined with the quails’ egg and apple. This was a great start.
Our favourite course is and always has been the main and our Lamb Rump with Mint Mash, Kale and Carrot and the Local Speciality Sausage with Creamed Potatoes and Onion Gravy certainly did not disappoint.
Beautifully presented, using exemplary locally sourced ingredients, these two stunning plates of food were just perfect. We had been walking all day and were so hungry when we sat for dinner, so were able to do this meal the justice it deserved.
We rested for a good 20 minutes before tackling desserts of Café Latte Crème Brulee with Shortcake and A selection of Cumbrian Appleby Creamery Cheese, Apple, Celery, Grapes, Chutney, Crackers and Port!
We shared both, the Crème Brulee was creamy and the perfect consistency and the shortbread crisp and buttery. But we do love cheeses, which came with all the accompaniments we serve at home so we were very happy!
After all that hiking and with our full bellies, we enjoyed relaxing in the lounge overlooking Lake Windemere with another couple of drinks before we gave in to sleep, and what a good night’s sleep we had.
The following morning, we were up bright and early to enjoy the spa facilities, building an appetite for a breakfast of a variety of freshly made breads, croissants and pastries, yoghurt and fresh fruit and a full cooked breakfast! That Cumbrian air was giving us very large appetites. That and the fact that we had another full day of hiking ahead of us before moving on to our next stop.
This had been a fantastic start to our Lakes Road Trip. Make sure you book into Beech Hill Hotel and Spa the next time you visit The Lake District. Relax, take time out and be looked after in the way you`d choose to be looked after.
See you again soon Beech Hill!
