Family Review: Treasure Island Beach Resort, Florida

Treasure Island Beach Resort, part of the Opal Collection, turned out to be the perfect spot to spend a couple of days at the end of our family break in Florida. We’d been hitting the theme parks in Orlando, so we were looking for some well-earned R&R.

With five of us travelling together, space and convenience are always top of the list and this hotel delivered on both, plus plenty more. From the moment we arrived I could see why this Treasure Island Beach Resort hotel gets such glowing reviews. It’s part of the Opal Collection, and it feels fresh, stylish, and we got a lovely warm welcome from the check-in staff.

The Rooms

All 77 rooms at the Treasure Island Beach Resort are suites, which means that you’ve got all that you need to really relax and enjoy your stay, and the separate bedrooms mean that everyone gets some privacy.

Walking into the room, the first thing that struck me was the view. The master bedroom and the living room had good size balconies looking out to the Gulf, and it’s just stunning.

The rooms themselves were excellent. Big enough for all of us to feel comfortable, with loads of storage so we could actually unpack instead of living out of suitcases. That made it so much easier to keep things tidy, which is no small thing when you’re travelling as a group of 5.

The kitchenette had everything we needed, all really good quality, so making snacks or throwing together a simple meal was no hassle at all. Coffee machine and a kettle, perfect!  I really value the flexibility of being able to eat in, and a having a kettle to make a cup of tea isn’t the norm in the US.

The bathrooms were another example of the hotel really thinking things through. Sleek and well-designed, mirrors in the bathroom and outside the bathroom too. With teenagers trying to get ready at the same time, this saved us so much stress.

The Resort

The resort itself has a really relaxed, welcoming vibe. Inside, there are comfy chairs set up by big windows where you can settle with a coffee or book, while outside on the super-soft sand there are hanging rattan chairs that became firm favourites with our lot. The pool was brilliant, right next to the beach, (and the beach bar!) plenty of loungers, and it never felt too crowded. Towels were easy to grab, which meant one less thing to lug around.

We also made use of the gym, which had a decent set-up, and maybe it’s my age, but the surprise gem was the laundry room! With two washers, two dryers, and a little seating area, it was easy to put a load on and then either sit and catch up online, head to the gym, or have a dip in the pool while the machines did their thing. Going home with clean clothes felt like a total win!

The location of the Treasure Island Beach Resort is great too. Within walking distance you’ve got loads of restaurants, bars, and cafés, plus supermarkets and pharmacies if you need practical bits. It meant we didn’t necessarily need to drive anywhere if we hadn’t wanted to.  Obviously, we did spread our wings, St Pete’s is a holiday makers dream, with beaches, boat rides and eateries galore. You can read how we spent our time in my 48 Hours in St Pete’s article for Girl About Travel.

For us as a family of five, Treasure Island Beach Resort really ticked all the boxes. Spacious rooms, thoughtful design, a great pool, and an unbeatable location right on the beach made it feel both relaxing and practical. We came away feeling like we’d had a proper break, fully recovered from racing around the theme parks in Orlando, and the kids have already asked when we can go back which, as any parent knows, is the best review of all.
