Rarely does ‘glamping’ live up its GLAM moniker in such style as you will find in the beautifully appointed Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts.
An actual (and literal) hidden gem, this adults only luxury glamping retreat in Pwllheli,
North Wales, is nestled within a wildflower meadow and overlooking a private lake. The location is a dream. It is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with uninterrupted far-reaching views to Yr Eifl mountains.
However it is the 5-star quality and personal touches provided at Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts that raise it above its contemporaries.
I went for a two night stay with my husband in ‘Joan’, the largest of the luxury huts, for a couple’s getaway. We were greeted by a roaring log burning stove upon arrival, a welcome touch setting the tone for the visit.
A Quality Stay
The quality of the fixtures and fittings of ‘Joan’ were a delight; from the beautifully crafted wooden kitchen with ingenious space saving intricacies, the wood burning stove with complimentary logs, to the surprisingly spacious bathroom.
This was complemented by numerous touches which all elevated the stay in small but notable ways – such as the provision of complimentary handmade organic goats milk soaps and shampoo, towels and bed linen were all provided, along with hotel-style slippers. Upon arrival, we discovered lacto free milk, local jams, and eggs in the fridge which made the following morning’s breakfast just a touch more special.
Impeccable Service
Hosts Mark and Jonathan were helpful and always on hand. Starting at the pre-book stage, they sent helpful updates via the – surprisingly thorough – app, filled with check in details, helpful information and instructions.
On-site they were a welcoming yet still discrete presence, only there if and when you needed them. Very knowledgeable about the area, they suggested great local landmarks to visit such as the magical Nant Gwrtheyrn. We could view the mountain out of the window of our hut, so it was lovely to be able to enjoy the outstanding landscape up close, just a fifteen minute drive away.
Private Cinema Experience
A fantastic bonus to our stay was discovering the secret, on-site, private cinema! It’s a 4K cinema with full DTS surround sound system and zero gravity reclining chairs and is a great choice for rainy evenings.
The film library is extensive, the screen actually is cinema size and you can even take a bottle of wine and two glasses into the cinema to enjoy with your film. It’s a relaxing, romantic addition and something you wouldn’t expect in your usual glamping experience.
Travelling Through Space And Time
Upon arrival you might spot an unexpected visitor… a Dr Who Tardis nestled in the meadow! This fictional hybrid of time machine and spacecraft that appears in the Science-Fi TV series Doctor Who, isn’t necessarily what you’d expect but it’s a fun touch. Tip: walk across the small bridge on the lake and open the door for an unexpected surprise inside…
