5 Reasons Why Bude Should Be On Your UK Staycation List

Who knew that this vibrant community on the North coast of Cornwall had so much going on!

Bude is a picture postcard perfect town waiting to be explored and here are five reasons why you should visit in 2024.

  1.  Bude boasts two beautiful beaches. Summerleaze is ideally designed for families, with a harbour wall calming the waves, beach huts and a sea pool for safer swimming.  Crooklets Beach is more rugged with excellent surfing conditions, so there is something for everyone.

  • The Wow factor, self-catering accommodation you can find The Beach at Bude Retreats is superb. High end luxury apartments, overlooking the sea with their own private pool, parking and covered balconies.

  • It’s a tourist town with a community feel. There are tennis courts, a golf course, cricket pitch, crazy golf, pedalos on the canal, seaside activities like kayaking and coasteering.  There is even a heritage site castle to visit.

  • The stunning coastal path is easily accessible and rolls right through the town. We were lucky enough to have access outside of the apartments, making getting to the beach and the views a dream.

  • It’s very friendly. Maybe it was the sunshine or maybe it’s the lovely shops, Cornish ice cream, beautiful scenery and slow living that makes Bude so cheerful.

If you do decide to go to Bude, you must check out @thebeachatbuderetreats. We stayed in their Bol Y Mear apartments which are situated two minutes from Crooklets Beach, although the group does also have a hotel in the town and self-catering houses that sleep up to 12.

The interior design and finish to the apartments  was to die for. This is Cornwall doing boujie very well. Everything from the appliances to the Smart TV, wine glasses, coffee table books, showers, and bedding are of excellent quality and made for a really special stay.

The views from the apartment were so lovely. You would watch the waves crashing on the rocks from the sofa and wake up to that sea air every morning. It was great having a covered balcony too, meaning that you got outdoor space no matter what the weather.

Everything here was easy! From the parking outside to the access codes to the building and finding things around the place was intuitive. You could even visit the hotel in Bude for breakfast overlooking the beach. Excellent food with the most friendly service, a little slice of heaven on the North Cornwall coast.
