Mifo 05 Plus Sports Bluetooth headphones: Tech review

Ever since Apple debuted their first pair of AirPods a few years back, the wireless earbud market has been flooded with imitators keen to grab a piece of the action. Unfortunately, most of them do not live up to expectation, leaving you with no option than to stay wired or shell out for Apple’s premium pods.

Enter award-winning brand Mifo, who recently entered the UK market with a product range that balance high-performance with a budget-friendly price point. Their latest release, the Mifo 05 Plus, come with an impressive list of high-spec features that blows their rivals out of the water.

But do they live up to the hype? Let’s dive in for a closer look.

Features and spec

A common gripe with Bluetooth headphones is battery life, but these little beauties pack a whopping 100-hours of charge when the carry case is charged to full capacity. Add to that a 7-hour independent battery life when removed from the case and you really can’t grumble. The Mifo 05 Plus have staying power.

The buds also come with Bluetooth 5.0 which means you’re unlikely to encounter syncing issues with your phone, laptop, tablet or TV. So far, we’ve had no problems with syncing and tested them on a range of different devices.

The Mifo 05 Plus also come with automatic noise cancelling to block out sound and can be switched to transparency mode should you wish to hear what’s going on around you. This feature is activated via the tiny buttons on the buds and again, we had no problems with this feature.

Each bud also comes with a mic, allowing you to make and receive calls whilst on the go. The sound quality here was average. Indoor calls are fine, but you’re likely to have clarity issues outdoors on a windy day. It’s also worth noting these buds are also waterproof and can withstand rain, sweat and being splashed, but should not be submerged in water.

Design and build

Looks wise, these buds aren’t bad, if a little plastic looking. There are more handsome headphones on the market, but they are incredibly lightweight and fit nicely into your ears. They are ideal for the gym and you don’t have to worry about them popping out mid-workout.

The metal charging case is much easier on the eye than the headphones themselves and comes with a magnetic lid and charging dock. This means that your buds won’t pop out of the charging dock, even if you happen to be moving around.

Sound quality

The 05 Plus pack a solid sonic performance, with a decent enough bass presence that doesn’t drown out vocals or midrange sounds. For more bass-heavy music, you might want to adjust the EQ settings on your phone or device. Luckily, the 05 Plus respond well to such settings and therefore we recommend tweaking your EQ levels to achieve optimum sound.

The Mifo 05 Plus are a strong all-rounder and come with a variety of attractive features that go beyond their modest price-tag. The mammoth battery life means you rarely need to charge them, making them perfect if you’re always out and about. Add to this a good sound performance and reliable Bluetooth syncing and you really can’t go wrong for less than £90.
