In The Market for a Porsche?

The Taycan 4s used to sit nicely in the middle of the Taycan range, that is until the GTS came about.

But is the Porsche Taycan 4s the one to go for? The first time I found myself in the driver’s seat I was most surprised.

Let’s go through the numbers:

The Taycan 4s starts at £84,030, that’s over £11,000 more than the entry-level Taycan. When comparing the 4s with the GTS it boasts a saving of around £20,000, you can add another £12,680 to pick up the Taycan Turbo, and the range-topping Turbo S starts at just under £140,000. That’s a huge £55,250 more than the 4s. So, it seems the Taycan 4s represents a bargain when it comes to a compromise between value and performance. The Taycan 4s Cross Turismo starts at £88,270.

So, what does £84,030 get you?

You get a 204 PS power electric motor, and a maximum power of 435 PS with the performance battery. The over boost maximum power with launch control adds up to 530 PS. Equip the Taycan 4s with the performance battery plus, a £4,613 added extra, and the over boost maximum power extends to 571 PS, around 563 bhp. 0-60 mph is dealt with in 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of 155 mph is possible. Depending on which battery you choose the claimed range sits somewhere between 200 – 330 miles on a full charge.

The Taycan 4s comes with:

4WD, this is not something you get in the entry-level Taycan. The performance is capable in the 4s as you never feel like you’re lugging along over 2 tonnes. There’s no hesitation in the way that the 4s accelerates, steers, and stops. In fact, that’s the great thing about the Taycan, it does it all without any doubt in its abilities, you never get a sense the car is squirrelling below you; everything is done with a calm demeanour.

Where the Taycan falls short is the claimed range, other electric vehicles can offer a higher range, but it is impressive in the way that it can charge its batteries. With the performance plus battery you’re able to go from 5% to 80% in just 23 minutes. If this is the future of battery charging technology, then we’re all for it.

The most impressive part of the Taycan was the suspension. This is the handy work of the Adaptive Air Suspension which includes the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). In short, when the front wheels detect any bumps in the road, they alert the rear wheels and cushion the ride prohibiting the driver and passengers to feel a thing. Impressive when you experience it in action.

Final thoughts:

Overall, the Porsche Taycan 4s offers excellent value if you’re in the market for a Taycan. It drives like any other Porsche I’ve driven, and it leaves you impressed with its capabilities. You may not be fond of the idea of electric cars taking over, but the Taycan is one that I can advocate.
