How to Create a Multi-Purpose Office for Home Workers

Spurred on by the Coronavirus pandemic, working from home is now more popular than it ever has been. In the UK alone, it is estimated that around 39% of workers are engaged with their work from home at least some of the time.

Working from home comes with a wealth of benefits, including reduced travel costs and greater autonomy, but it can be very difficult for work-from-home individuals to stay organised and productive when they are working in such a familiar environment. However, creating a multi-purpose office space which includes a place to work, a place to play, and a place to relax has been proven to have a massively positive effect on the life of the home workers.

Fill the Office with everything you need

This isn’t just about making sure the office has a good WIFI connection, or that your work laptop is in the room, but also about filling the space with other things you enjoy and can turn to during breaks or when the working day is over.

If you’re someone who uses a laptop or tablet for leisure, for example, by playing at online casinos, then make sure these are stored in the room too, so that you can easily access them during a break. One of the great things about using online casinos not on GameStop in your free time while in the comfort of your office is that you can take any winnings you make and use them to purchase new things for the office, including decorations and furniture. By understanding how non gamstop casinos work, and making the most of the many benefits they bring to players, you’ll be cashing out your winnings in no time and making your office truly shine.

It’s also a good idea to have numerous books or magazines, art supplies, games consoles or even a TV in the office space. Make sure you have enough charges in the office to cover all your devices, and that you can store them in a way that won’t make the space feel too cluttered.

Have Different Areas for Different Activities

For increased productivity, it is generally recommended that work-from-home workers do not complete their work in the place where they often engage with hobbies or relax. Instead, it is easy for our brains to compartmentalise work and play, and engage more effectively with our tasks if we separate where we engage with them from.

Of course, if you want to create a dual office for work and play, then both activities are going to be taking place in the same room, but you can still make the most of a small space and keep them separate. Make sure you have a desk and a comfortable chair that you can sit at while working, but why not also have a small couch, an armchair or a gaming chair at the other end of the room that you can use when the working day is over and you can engage with the things you love?

Be Maximalist

Although there is something to be said about the modern and sleek world of minimalist decor, few people benefit from implementing it in their work-from-home office, and this is especially the case if you hope to use the office for both work and play.

Instead, why not lean in to maximalism and fill the room with things that you like? These could be ornaments, framed pictures of loved ones and fond memories, poems that inspire you or even inspirational quotes. You could also try theming these things to the different areas of your office. Your workspace could have posters and cork boards decorated with things that keep you motivated. This doesn’t have to be specifically work-related, and could even involve the things you’d like to buy when you get paid, so you can remind yourself what it is you’re working towards.

In the sections of your office that you use for leisure, make sure your seating area is comfy, that you have access to natural light and soft orange light for the evenings. Fill the place with books, art supplies or whatever musical instrument you want to master in your free time.

However, also make sure that you have adequate storage in your office and that the place doesn’t become cluttered, because if this happens, it can have the opposite of the desired effect on focus and productivity.
