Perhaps it is something that we inherited from the Romans, but a long, hot soak in a bathtub is a marvellous British pastime, and there is no better time to indulge our inner Roman, than the winter.
Transforming your bathroom from a plain, garden variety washroom into a spa room sanctuary is not nearly as complicated or expensive as one might think. Rather, we have a few hacks that you can use right now, to turn your bathroom – into a haven.
If remodelling and renovating is your passion (and maybe even your business), you’ll want to check out these bathroom design tools, but even if you just want a more serene and wholesome experience at home, read on.
Getting the bright idea.

Setting or changing a mood in any space, not just your bathroom is as easy – as turning the lights on, or off for that matter. Installing a dimmer switch, changing the location of the lights from the ceiling to backlights, or installing lighting around the borders of the bathroom will instantly change the look and feel of your bathroom. Opt for softer lights and if you’re brave enough, experiment with different colours. You can find some inspiration, here.
Floor matters.

Changing the tiles on your shower floor is a relatively inexpensive hack to create a brand new look and feel for your shower, helping to create the perfect spa room. If you have a bath as well as a shower, then changing the tiles on your shower floor will give that space unique characteristics that distinguish it from the rest of the room. If you’re opting to create a true-spa experience in your bathroom, then hitting the shower before the bath so that you can exfoliate with a rich body scrub, will complete this experience, and it doesn’t have to stop there. You can also play with LED lighting in your shower and if you pair different coloured lights with different scents – you’re in for a treat. Think of dark green backlights with mint-body scrubs. Bliss.
The spa angels are in the detail.

For a smaller, budget-friendly touch to your bathroom, simply add candles with aromatherapy oils and fragrances (lavender is a particularly soothing scent for the bath), or experiment with potted plants, hanging ferns in a corner and if you have a pound or two to spare, think about a waterproof Bluetooth speaker to play your favourite chill-out tunes in the background.
Even changing the towels in your bathroom can enhance the overall experience and if you pop them in the dryer for a few minutes before your bath, they’ll warm and snuggly when you get out of the shower or bath.
Your bathroom experience is a form of therapy, and if you’re heading into the new year on a high and want to keep it that way, transforming your bathroom is one of the ways you can hit January, without the blues.

Considering that we spend around 60 hours a year bathing or showering, aim to get the best out of the experience.
