Tucked behind The Devonshire Spa, at the magnificent Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa at Bolton Abbey, is a secret village of bell tents which provide the perfect spa retreat for two.
Yours for the day, and to make sure your spa day is perfect, they contain everything you need to relax and indulge, from complimentary refreshments to robes and slippers, comfortable furniture and a cosy log burner, and let’s not forget the fantastic views of the surrounding Dales landscape!
We couldn’t wait to experience a spa day in these unique surroundings, at one of our favourite places, and the day we visited was a lovely summer day making it the perfect place to be.
On arrival, we were shown around the facilities and introduced to the people who would be looking after us. We were then escorted to our private bell tent hideaway for the day.
Inside there was everything we could need throughout the day, there was even seating inside and out, plenty of space to change and a table and chairs for dining. Each tent has tea and coffee making facilities, biscuits and fresh juice, iced water, storage space, hair dryer, straighteners, mirror, spa goodies, robes and flipflops. There’s even a charge point!
There are various packages, depending on what you would like to include in your day. We had been invited to ‘The Mid-Week One’. Here are the details:

During your stay you can enjoy all the spa facilities at your leisure throughout the day. Take a dip in the pool, relax in the sauna or float away in the jacuzzi. We also had a full body massage each to rid ourselves of the pain from sitting at a desk and working on computers all day! Now that was heaven!
We floated back to that bell tent, and we were so relaxed after lunch that we had an afternoon siesta!
Some of the spa packages include treatments, we highly recommend that you book at least one treatment each while there to enjoy the whole experience. The therapists at the Devonshire Arms are amazing!
Now let’s talk about that lunch.
On arrival we were asked to pe-order from a menu – there was a delicious and very healthy soup to start and then a choice of super delicious sandwiches, followed by a cream tea! All personally delivered to our tent in a picnic hamper.
It was such a beautiful day that we ate outside, admiring the gorgeous view of the Yorkshire Dales, watching two herons catching their own lunch in the river stone’s throw away from us.
Does life get any better? Is there anything more beautiful than the Yorkshire countryside? Did we have to leave?
It had been such an idyllic day; we didn’t want it to end. But end it must and on the way home we discussed when we could come back. This is such a lovely treat; it would be perfect to reward ourselves every few weeks with a visit.
