Welcome to Thirty Nine Kitchen and Bakehouse, Ilkley

To review Thirty Nine Kitchen and Bakehouse was a real treat for me, this is one of my personal favourite brunch spots. If you live in Ilkley, you will know exactly what I am talking about!

Yes I’m a foodie. Yes I eat out – a lot! But it makes all the difference when you are reviewing somewhere you know well and visit often because the food and service are SO GOOD. In my opinion, Thirty Nine in Ilkley ticks all the boxes.

Thirty Nine is a lovely family run business where all dishes are made by hand, with a focus on seasonal ingredients from local suppliers and sustainability. But it’s the quality of the food and the friendly atmosphere served that keeps their customers returning.

In fact the day I visited, I was there 30 minutes before they officially  opened and the queue of customers started shortly after. Even on a bitterly cold morning like this, people were prepared to queue to indulge in the delicious homemade treats served at Thirty Nine Kitchen and Bakehouse.

Personally, my husband and I love to go for brunch before we tackle a long hike across Ilkley Moor. However, you can enjoy an indulgent breakfast, brunch, lunch, a delicious barista coffee with a slice of one of their homemade cakes, or your choice of smoothie or milkshake.

They are dog friendly too and welcome your fur babies inside, and outside on their alfresco terrace.

Here’s what my dining partner, Victoria and I reviewed:

Thirty Nine Kitchen and Bakehouse Ilkley

Festive Sandwich – turkey ballotine with sage and onion sausage meat stuffing, bacon, smoked brie, chipotle mayo, hash browns,  cranberry, port and orange sauce.

This was huge and delicious in equal quantities. Packed with hearty ingredients, believe me you will possibly not want to eat again all day. Having said that, you will find yourself licking your fingers to get the last of those stunning flavours.

Garlic Mushrooms on Toast – sourdough toast with truffled garlic cream. For a small supplement you can add two poached eggs and/or bacon.  Add them!

We had this with everything and it was, well – just Wow! Those mushrooms were amazing, the eggs perfectly cooked with the most orangey yolks we had ever seen, and they were runny, creamy and fresh. I might be replacing my usual Eggs Benedict for this in future!

Truffle Fries – who doesn’t love truffle fries? If that’s you, we can’t be friends! I almost asked for a portion to take home.

Drinks and Cake – if you are a serious coffee lover, you’re in for a treat and you will be spoilt for choice. If you have a sweet tooth, you will not be able to leave without eating a large slice of one of these homemade delights. Or of course, you can take it home to enjoy later, but our bet is you will eat a slice there and also take some home for later. Yes, their cakes are really as good as it gets.

On our visit we tried the Cherry and Almond Cake and the Lemon Drizzle and there wasn’t one crumb left on those plates. Both of these sweet treats were moist and moreish, and we’ve already eyed up the cakes we want to try next time.

More you need to know:

There’s no need to book as they don’t take reservations.
