Not all families are happy to spend their holidays lounging by the pool or the beach generating a year’s worth of sunburn in a week. Some families would prefer to spend their time together experiencing adventures and sharing memories that will last a lifetime.
Even if you’re a family that usually spends a week every year chilling in the sun, with flights to many traditional beach holiday locations skyrocketing in recent years for several reasons, maybe it’s time you started looking towards something a little more affordable and adventurous, how about adventure holidays? With that in mind, here are a few more adventurous holiday ideas you might want to consider.
Road trip

One of the best things about the UK is how relatively compact it is. You can get in your car and drive and within an hour you’ll almost certainly come across something worth stopping for. So, next holiday, why not just pile the family into the car and see where the winds of fate take you?
Thanks to the Eurotunnel, you could even take the adventure to the rest of the continent. We would recommend, however, checking on and potentially investing in some new car batteries before putting the family car through its paces in such a way.
Adventure and activity holidays

Whether it’s hiking up Snowdon or white water rafting in Wales, there are hundreds of potential adventure activities to be found throughout the UK. If you don’t want to make it the sole focus of your holiday you could even add a few stops on your road trip. For example, there are Go Ape locations across the country that let you swing through the trees like Tarzan.
Then there are even more obscure ideas like taking part in The Crystal Maze in Manchester (yes, it’s the same set they use on TV) or staying the night in a safari hut in the West Midlands. There are so many bizarre things to do that you might run out of ideas for one holiday and have to stretch into a second!
Theme parks

What family doesn’t enjoy the heady rush of a good roller coaster? There are several incredible theme parks in the UK, including the likes of Alton Towers and Thorpe Park. These parks are always adding new thrill rides and have their own hotels on-site, so are perfectly placed to offer something a little more eccentric for your next holiday.
If you want to spend a little more, meanwhile, and are looking for a family holiday that truly pushes the boat out, you could always spend a weekend in Disneyland Paris. It’s the biggest tourist attraction in Europe for a reason and while it might once have been seen as a distant cousin to the Disney parks in the US, it’s come on leaps and bounds in the last 20 years.
