Welcome to The Garden Room at The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa.

A style makeover and a fresh culinary ethos have combined to create an exciting new dining experience at this iconic Yorkshire Dales hotel.

The Garden Room occupies the conservatory space of the hotel’s previous restaurant, Burlington, enjoying views over the hotel’s Italian style courtyard garden.

Diners can expect a less formal experience, yet still enjoying exceptional standard of modern British food, with a thoughtful selection of seasonal produce married with culinary expertise making the most of the local foods, gathered from nearby farms including the Bolton Abbey estate, neighbourhood artisan producers, and Scottish and Yorkshire fish merchants. The hotel’s historic walled kitchen gardens provide most of the vegetables, salads, herbs and home-picked fruits for much of the year.

Adam Harper, Executive Chef shares further insight to the new dining experience:

‘Following success of the new Garden Room at our sister hotel, The Cavendish in Baslow, we discovered that our guests were particularly complimentary of simpler dining choices, and a more relaxed ambience and this dining style is enjoyed by locals as well as hotel guests. This success inspired us to adopt a similar approach here at The Dev.

Central to each seasonal menu will be a themed tasting menu, for example this summer’s tasting menu showcases the very best British seafood and fish, including Orkney scallops, native lobster and wild sea bass.

Tasty à la carte options include starters including Salt Aged Yorkshire Duck breast, Exmoor Caviar and BBQ’d Garden Salad. Mains include Eshton Herdwich Estate Lamb, Yorkshire Beef Wellington and Halibut. The carefully thought-out menu invites diners to tailor their own dining experience. I feel confident that diners will enjoy this selection of seasonal fayre. Each plate is simply presented, with the taste of the ‘hero’ ingredient, optimised by interesting flavour combinations, tempting the palate and delivering a sensational end result.’

Garden Room is a style evolution, developing the hotel’s elegant conservatory area with its light and airy aspect, and pleasing views over the hotel’s Italian style courtyard garden.  Diners will enjoy the ‘outside in’ ambience, which complements the fresh seasonal menus. Garden Room’s botanical design and conservatory setting, with teal and floral upholstered chairs and backdrop of glossy leaved plants, provides a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.

During the summer, a seasonal afternoon tea will be served each afternoon, with an option of tables spilling out into the garden to enjoy the beauty of courtyard garden.

Signature Afternoon Tea, £39.50 with Laurent Perrier ‘Sparkling’ Afternoon Tea, £49.50 per person.
