We sent our writer Rachel McAlley to York to visit Byron Burger and experience some tasty burgers from the menu. Here’s what she thought of the bottomless fries and the sumptuous burgers.

The thing about York is that no matter when you enter the city it is always bustling and has a great atmosphere. Even as we approached Byron Burger on High Ousegate we could see that the queue was super long for this burger joint!
We waited outside alongside a few other diners eager to enjoy Byron Burger. There were a mix of delivery guys and girls from the likes of Just Eat, Uber Eats, and Deliveroo too waiting to pick up their customers orders. It’s always a sign that the food is good if people are ordering from home!
The team greeted us with smiles, and a willingness to help. The couple in front wanted to reserve a table for later that evening, the family behind had a reservation just like us. We all were very well looked after.
Once sat at our table in the window we ordered drinks and browsed the menus. We could place our order via the Byron online app or via an in-restaurant server, and we chose a paper menu and to order with a staff member.
There was plenty to choose from so we opted for the Chicken Bites and the Chicken Wings to start with. As for the Chicken Bites, they were buttermilk-marinated with Byron seasoning and a side of BBQ sauce. Tasty, succulent chicken and the perfect crunch with each bite! We also chose the spicy Buffalo glazed wings that were served with a side of chunky blue cheese dip, these were dreamy delish!

Starters
Moving onto the main course and the experience of trying a Byron Burger for the first time. So, this was a little trickier as most of the burgers, chicken burgers, and veggie options looked and sounded amazing. In our party there were three of us, including a 10-year old whom we ordered the kids cheeseburger for, and she was suitably impressed. It takes a lot to impress my child these days, so when she said that it was up there with her favourite burger of all time, we were happy. I mean, the fact that Byron was competing against a burger that Mickey Mouse gave to her at Disney, can only be a good thing right!
On to the adult burgers, we decided to tuck into a Double Bacon Cheese Burger, and a Clucky Burger both served with bottomless fries. So, the Double BC comprised of two 6oz beef patties, American cheese, bacon, ketchup, pickles and American mustard. This whopping great burger is known as the king of all burgers at Byron, and we agree that it’s mahoosive. The Clucky was a buttermilk-fried chicken breast all crispy and moreish. It came topped with smashed avocado, sriracha mayo, pickles, lettuce, and some superb pickled red onions. Seriously this chicken burger was standout delicious. No one spoke during the first few mouthfuls, which can only mean one thing – these burgers were soooooooo good.
Would we go back to Byron Burger in York? Erm, without a doubt yes. Would we try something different on the menu? Who knows because we think we found burger perfection. And, would we recommend Byron Burger in York to anyone asking about burgers in North Yorkshire? You’re damn right we would!
