The Return to The Pub for Tea

It was the night we had all been waiting for, the reopening of hospitality around England. But was it a good experience or a bad one?

Our writer Rachel McAlley visited a chain pub and restaurant on 18th May when everything hospitality-wise reopened its doors post-lockdown. Here are the findings of her first visit to dine inside a relatively busy chain pub…

It was both an exciting time and a worrying time for all involved, with covid restrictions still in place, this meant that facemasks were to be worn inside the pub and hand sanitiser was offered on arrival. But there needn’t have been any worry at all because the front of house staff and management were an absolute pleasure to be around. They explained the menu, the rules and regs for walking around, and that it was table service for all customers when ordering both food and drinks.

Which chain pub did she visit?

Yorkshire Rose Pub

The Yorkshire Rose on Leeds Road in Huddersfield, owned by Marston’s.

Rachel and her guest were sat at one of the windows, and each table was socially distanced with no worries about customers bumping into each other around the pub. The menus were left on the table and a drinks orders taken.

She opted for a few classic pub dishes including prawn cocktail, cheesy nachos, chicken tikka masala, pasta alfredo, sticky toffee pud, and apple pie.

The best bit about dining at a (Two for One) Marston’s Pub is that all main courses and specials are priced at two for one! And, if you’re a single diner or a table of 3 or 5 guests you can add a dessert to the main course and the cheapest is free. It’s a win win for all Two For One Marton’s Pub guests.

Our favourite dishes were the prawn cocktail, chicken tikka masala, and the apple pie – you don’t get more classically British than that do you! They also serve a really great selection of pizzas, so if that’s what you crave then we can honestly say that the pizzas looked fab.

Would we recommend visiting The Yorkshire Rose?

It’s not gourmet dining by any stretch of the imagination, but it is good hearty pub grub, the service is very good, and the current covid-precautions in place were second-to-none. For a cheap family meal out it’s a definite yes from us.

The Yorkshire Rose team are taking bookings over the phone, online, and are accepting walk-ins, so you can just call in and reserve a table if you’re passing-by.
