Prezzo The Light review: Autumnal menu offers plenty to shout about

The temperature may have dropped and the evenings are drawing in, but Prezzo is stepping into the Autumn months in style, with a new menu packed with promise. We were lucky enough to get a sneak peek of their latest dishes, and for the most part, they shone.

We arrived on a packed Saturday night and kicked things off with a round of cocktails from their latest drinks menu. The Spiced Rum Punch is punchy and warming, with the spiced Bacardi nicely balanced with the addition of pomegranate and apple juice.

But it was the ingenious Blackberry Negroni that stole the show, with the fruity blackberry liqueur smoothing out the bitterness of the Campari and sweet vermouth. A future classic in the making for sure.

First up for starters, we couldn’t resist going back to the comfort of an old favourite, the dangerously moreish Crispy Fried Mozzarella. Served with Calabrese Ketchup, these deliciously gooey parcels of cheesy goodness are worth every single calorie.

Our second starter, the Pecorino and Honey Tortellini, looked a little lost in the sauce and could have been a better presentation-wise. Sometimes less is more, however, the flavours of the creamy pecorino and honey worked well together.

Once again, we got lucky with our wine choice. The El Colectivo Malbec is a fine medium-bodied red, bursting with notes of black cherry and fig. Perfect for spicy pizza and pasta dishes.

Speaking of pizza, there are three new additions to Prezzo’s latest collection, including Ham,  Mushroom and Mascarpone, as well as a meat-free version. For us, however, it had to be the Dolce e Piccante, a fiery little number blessed with spicy pepperoni, nduja, red chilli, creamy burrata mozzarella and a dash of honey.

An exceptional pizza that jumps off the menu and delivers on the flavour front. Pasta lovers are also well served, with two eye-catching additions making their debut. We eventually decided to leave the Chicken Alfredo Tagliatelle in favour of the Chorizo and Ricotta Ravioli, which comes tumbled in a beautiful garlic Pomodoro sauce with Calabrese sausage and sweet cherry tomatoes, finished with Parmesan and basil.

Sadly, we didn’t have room for dessert but left on a promise to return to try out the tempting Triple Chocolate Tart and luxuriously rich Tiramisu. Prezzo has delivered the goods again, earning its spot as one of the city’s hottest casual dining spots.
