The biggest wedding trends of 2022 and the ones to look out for in 2023. 2022 has been a big year for weddings. With so many postponed in the previous two years due to the pandemic, everyone has decided that 2022 is the year to tie the knot amongst all their nearest and dearest.
Finally, dancefloors can be filled again, social distancing measures disposed of, and unlimited numbers of guests can attend to celebrate your nuptials. This year has seen countless new trends pop up, many of which are disposing of old traditions for more colourful, sustainable models. And they’re paving the way for an exciting year of wedding trends in 2023 too.
If you’re sporting a stunning diamond engagement ring and planning your big day, feel free to take inspiration from these following trends.
Trends in 2022

The past year has homed down on the sustainability aspects of the wedding industry. Carrie Symonds made global headlines for wearing a rented wedding dress to marry Boris Johnson, and the trend has grown exponentially. With many brides not having the budget to spend hundreds on a brand-new dress they will realistically only wear once, more and more brides are turning to rentals. In fact, the online clothing rental market is expected to boom by £700 million in the next few years.
More and more couples are also ditching the extravagant venues for the comfort of their back gardens. It signals a move to smaller, more intimate weddings that cut costs and add a more personal feel. In turn, there has been an increase in sustainable wedding décor, with Etsy seeing a 124% increase in searches for outdoor wedding décor that incorporates natural materials.
Trends predicted for 2023
As for 2023, the wedding industry is only getting better. Not only are we are going gender neutral with bridal suits for women to complement our growing love for more intimate, lowkey weddings, but we are also seeing a huge rise in 80s power dressing. Think of Princess Diana’s iconic wedding gown when she married Prince Charles and you’re on the right track. Bridal fashion shows all over are awash with giant puffed sleeves, extravagant detailing and head-turning trains. Perfect for any bride who wants to make a statement, the 80s are back in full force, power dressers all over couldn’t be more excited.

To compliment the statement fashion, bold colour schemes are entering the fold. Wave goodbye to pastel shades and embrace eye-catching reds, playful pinks and summery yellows.
Finally, when all the official stuff is over, couples are keener than ever to just have fun. Instead of DJs and bands, we’re seeing a move to more visual entertainment during the reception, like dancers, aerialists and even casino experiences.
