The critically acclaimed, landmark Chichester Festival Theatre production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific comes to Leeds Grand Theatre in 2022 from Tuesday 1 – Saturday 5 November.
Following its sell-out run in Chichester this summer, Producers Jamie Wilson and Jonathan Church said, “After experiencing the buzz of the auditorium in Chichester, along with the rapturous applause and standing-ovations, we knew that this production of South Pacific just had to have a further life so that the magic of it could be enjoyed by everyone.”
This powerful love story, set on a South Pacific Island during World War ll, is brought thrillingly to life with a sensational cast of over 30 and a full orchestra in this epic new five-star production. South Pacific boasts one of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most memorable scores, and this much-loved Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical features songs such as Some Enchanted Evening, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair and Bali Ha’i.

Julian Ovenden (Downton Abbey, Bridgerton) will star as Emile de Becque, alongside West End star Gina Beck (Matilda, Showboat, Wicked) as Ensign Nellie Forbush. They are joined by fellow members of the original Chichester Festival Theatre company; Rob Houchen as Lieutenant Joseph Cable, Joanna Ampil as Bloody Mary, Sera Maehara as Liat.
Also in the cast are Lee Ross as Luther Billis, David Birrell as Captain George Brackett, Stephen John Davis as Commander William Harbison, Antoine Murray-Straughan as Stewpot, Charlie Waddell as Professor and Olly Christopher as Sergeant Johnson.

Daniel Evans and Kathy Bourne, Artistic and Executive Directors of Chichester Festival Theatre respectively, said they were proud to be working with regional theatres “to bring Rodgers & Hammerstein’s beloved musical to wider audiences across the country”. They added “we are always delighted to be able to share work made in Chichester beyond the borders of Sussex”.
South Pacific is at Leeds Grand Theatre from Tuesday 1 – Saturday 5 November 2022.
