Five Signs Your Business Isn’t as Safe as You Thought

When was the last time you checked your internal security in your business? Have you ever actually invested in your business security before?

When you run a business, you need to make sure that you and your team and your systems are completely safe. From outside threats to considering people breaking into your business, you have a lot to think about to ensure that your business is kept safe.

Cyber security is a big deal and you should be aware that your business will always be under threat. You can ensure that you put pen testing into place first so that you can check where your business is vulnerable, and you can look to where you have gaps in your security right now and start making things better. If you notice any of these five signs, then your business really isn’t as safe as you thought it was.

  • You keep leaving the doors unlocked. The very first sign that your business isn’t a safe one is that you are leaving the doors unlocked. It should be easy to lock up behind yourself at the end of the day, but if you are keeping the doors unlocked and letting people come in and out, there’s a security issue. Instead, key cards with electronic IDs can help you to ensure that only the right people can go in and out of your business – and you can track it!
  • You have no lights around your perimeter. You’ve got the fences, but you don’t have any floodlights to ensure that your business is looked after. You need lighting so that your people are safe going to their cars at the end of a long day. Keeping the outside areas lit up is also going to help you to keep up with the security of your business.
  • You don’t have CCTV. Any modern business should have video security these days and if yours doesn’t, then it’s not as secure as you imagined it to be. You want cameras on all exits and entrances, watching everything going on or that at any given time, you can check in on who is coming in and out of the business.
  • There are weak links in your employee base. These are the people with the most access to your business at any time. It’s a risk you take to hire who you hire, but it can also be your biggest strength. Making sure that you are hiring the right people can mean a background check is a must! Running background checks as part of your hiring process is smart and if you’re not doing it already, your business isn’t as safe as you thought it was.
  • You aren’t changing passwords. If you are not spending time updating workplace passwords and administrative logins, you’re going to be leaving your business at risk. You need to train your employees as to why it’s so important to change your passwords often, and why you should make sure that they are case sensitive!

To make your retail business safe, it is important to invest in retail security, ensuring your retail store is monitored and secure at all times.
