Become a Barber and Work With ARKADE

Have you ever thought about becoming a Barber? Whether you are looking for a career change or in search of the perfect location to work – ARKADE offers you both.

To become a barber is a great job. You don’t need to have any academic qualifications from school, all you need is a creative edge and the desire to learn. The opportunities are endless and the potential to grow within the industry is just as desirable.

What to expect

Being a barber requires a lot of hard work, commitment and professionalism. To build a consistent client base, you may be required to work long hours, weekends, engage with clients beyond working hours and in today’s age, build a consistent and inviting social media portfolio.

Despite this, you will struggle to find a barber that doesn’t enjoy what they do. The expressive nature of the job, the freedom, and the opportunity to get paid for doing something you love are just some of the benefits.

Where to start

If you’ve just finished academic education or are a complete beginner, you could enrol into a college which will offer you different levels of NVQ education and gain you the necessary qualifications to be able to barber. Along with this, there are apprenticeship schemes which would allow you to work in a salon in conjunction to your education, one of the benefits of this is, you’d be getting paid as there are financial incentives for employers who take on apprentices. You can also pay for a private course which would be carried out by an NVQ level assessor, this would usually be completed in half the time but comes at cost, the average price is between £2,000-£6,000.

I’m already a barber, I want a career move

You maybe feeling trapped or at a stand still with your current job, it is important to consider what you want to gain from the industry. ARKADE encourages our barbers to constantly educate and explore opportunities through our Academy, relationships with core brands we work with and overall personal growth.

We believe a barbering career can take various routes, it may start with cutting behind a chair but could lead to educating, hosting workshops, being a part of industry groups, photoshoots with national and international publications, attending events such as London Fashion Week and much more.  The important thing is to remember, you have options.

What to do next

Depending on what your current situation is, your next step may be enrolling into a college or applying for a job. For the first, explore your local education and college institutions that offer a Level 2 NVQ in Barbering. Once you have identified the education provider and enrolled on to the course, apply as an apprentice with ARKADE.
