Introducing the Team at the Prestigious Yorkshire College of Beauty in Leeds

Over the last few months, we have been introducing you to one of the most prestigious beauty schools in the country, Yorkshire College of Beauty in Leeds.

We thought it was time to introduce you to the team behind this successful facility as they are all amazing! However, this team is extensive so we will be doing a series of ‘Meet the Team’ features for you to enjoy and to really get ‘under the skin’ of this successful beauty college.

Here we go with Part One.

Christine Tilley – Chairman

My name is Christine Tilley and I founded the college in 1983. I have 44 years of experience in the beauty industry and I originally did my own beauty therapy training in the mid-70s in London before returning to my hometown of Sheffield, to work as a beauty therapist in a small privately owned salon.

I decided I wanted to pursue a career in teaching and whilst working full time, attended day release and night classes to achieve my teaching qualification goal at a local FE college. My first teaching job was at a CIDESCO International College in Retford working for Dawn Cragg MBE, before going on to open my own college in Leeds in 1983.

For over 20 years I was an international examiner for the prestigious CIDESCO qualification and had the pleasure of travelling to many countries all over the world.

I am now the chairman of the Yorkshire College of Beauty and have a wonderful team who ensure the highest of delivery to our students in all aspects of beauty therapy from level two up to level four, as well as fitness training and sports massage courses.

Rebecca O’Farrell – Training Director

I left school at 18 after completing A levels. I then qualified as an Osteopath, working in Fylde, Lancashire with the physiotherapist from Liverpool Football Club.

After being there for a while I pursued my interest in beauty therapy, attending the Yorkshire College of Beauty, chosen due to its reputation within the beauty industry.

I worked in a salon before completing my teaching qualification and progressing on to teach at the Yorkshire College of Beauty. I am currently the Training Director working together with all the YCOB team to deliver the highest standards of beauty therapy training.

Vickie Holmes – Training Manager for the Apprenticeship Department

I left school at 16 and went to The Leeds Dental institute to study dental nursing on a YTS scheme which is similar to the current apprenticeship training. I worked in general practice and became a practice manager during my 15 years in the dental world.

I always had a passion for all things beauty related and at the age of 28 I decided to retrain and become a beauty therapist. It goes without saying that I chose The Yorkshire College of Beauty having the best reputation in industry!

My journey from salon to teaching evolved quickly after qualifying and 16 years later I am still here.

The most rewarding aspect of teaching is the opportunity to watch the learners embrace and learn something new each day while succeeding in their studies. I now specialise in the delivery of the Level 4 Advanced Beauty Course and I am also the Training  Manager for the apprenticeship department of the college.

Alexandra Graham – Tutor

I’m Alex, a Level 2 and Level 3 tutor here at Yorkshire College of Beauty, currently teaching a Level 3 class. I also supervise our Friday Salon, where students who are learning with us are utilising their new skills on clients.

I am a former student of YCOB too – I obtained my Levels 2&3 ITEC and CIBTAC qualifications here, as well as my CIDESCO qualifications. My specialty is massage therapy, this is a part of the industry that I most enjoy. Most recently I became qualified in Sports Massage, and away from the college I own Bespoke Beauty Retreat in Huddersfield, where I have a client base who visit me for all aspects of massage and therapy treatment. I also offer various beauty treatments too.

Outside of the industry, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, heading out to the theatre or to see some live music, I love walking and weekends away.

Lewis Hatcher – Fitness Training Manager

I have worked within the Fitness sector for nine years. Although, I began my career as an apprentice car mechanic, I realised one day while sweeping floors that my passion was in the health and fitness industry. I left my job and enrolled into college to start my journey into a career I was passionate about.

Furthermore, I enjoyed playing football and ultimately like every teenage boy my dream was to pursue a career in sport. However, as we all say, injuries set me back and since having two shoulder operations my love for the gym was born starting with my own rehabilitation.

I completed my degree in Sports in Exercise Development and then went on to complete my Level 2 in Fitness Instructing and Level 3 Personal Training courses to focus on a career within the fitness industry.

For 6 years I have managed fitness courses and ensure learners receive an outstanding service when completing their qualification. I also offer them ongoing career support and connect them with leading industry gyms upon graduation.

I focus on helping clients achieve their goals via online coaching. This system works very well for my clients and I do not have any restrictions on where my clients are based. I help them live a healthier lifestyle while achieving their fitness goals and building a positive mindset through specific workout and nutrition plans.

We hope you enjoyed meeting some of the team and getting more of an insight to the people behind the brand. Look out for the second instalment.
