Hair Care and Skin Care Basics

Taking care of your body is important for your health, well-being and also how you present yourself to the world. Of course, when we think of bodily health, we tend to focus on common areas such as your diet and exercise.

But it’s also important that you concentrate on other areas you might otherwise neglect. Here are a few suggestions that could help you to take care of your hair and your skin in particular.

Hair Care

Let’s start out by looking at your hair care routine. We all have different hair and all of the different types require different care. Here are some suggestions that will help.

Know Your Hair Type

First, you need to know your hair type. We all have different types of hair, ranging from the shape (caused by the size of your hair follicles) to the thickness, length, colour, volume, tone and more. Here are some common hair types for you to identify your hair through.

  • Straight – straight hair is a common hair type in Europe and Asia. The individual strands of hair may be fine or coarse, or thick or thin, but they will fall in a straight line from the root of your hair to the tip of the hair. Avoid using oil in this hair type, as natural oils from your scalp will fall down your hair shaft themselves.
  • Wavywavy hair falls between straight hair and curly hair. It has a gently tousled texture and appearance. The wave can appear at any point down the strand, it may start at the root, further down the hair shaft or elsewhere. You should use light and oil free products in wavy hair, as this will maintain volume and prevent the weight of the products from pulling the waves out.
  • Curly – curly hair is easily distinguished. It is textured and has a lot of volume, with s shapes and loops naturally forming. Make sure to use specific, curly hair products, as this will help take proper care of your hair. You should also try using a diffuser and avoiding brushing your hair while it’s dry.
  • Coily – coily hair is common in Africa. It is essentially very tight curls, which can take an s-shape, a coiled shape or zig zag shape. Make sure that this hair type gets plenty of moisture through specialist oils.

Clip-Ins and Extensions

If you want to change your hair length or thickness, you don’t have to settle with the hair that you grow yourself. Instead, you could look into clip-ins and extensions like Vixen & Blush tape in hair extensions. There’s every kind you can imagine out there, so no matter what hair length, thickness, texture, colour or style you want, you’ll be able to find something that perfectly fits your needs.

Skin Care

Your skin is the largest organ in your body. You need to make sure that you are taking proper care of it to keep it healthy, clean and clear.

Know Your Skin Type

To be able to find the right products for your skin, you need to make sure you know your skin type. There are four common skin types that you should be familiar with in order to choose the right cleanser, toner, moisturiser and more. The four skin types are:

  • Normal skin – normal skin is balanced. It isn’t excessively oily or dry. This tends to be the most sought-after skin type, as it faces few issues or blemishes.
  • Dry skin – dry skin doesn’t produce enough sebum, which can cause issues such as flakiness, tightness or a rough texture.
  • Oily skin – oily skin will pose you with the opposite problems you’d experience with dry skin. It produces too much sebum, resulting in a greasy, wet look texture. You may get visible pores and clogged pores and experience spots as a result.
  • Combination skin – the clue to combination skin is in its name. Combination skin combines the different skin types outlined above in different areas of your face. You may have dry skin on your nose, oily skin on your forehead and normal skin elsewhere, for example.

Skin Conditions

It’s important to be aware that not all skin conditions can be resolved through a general skincare routine. Some are medical conditions that will require medical assistance. Examples include acne, psoriasis, eczema and so many more. If you are struggling with skin complaints that don’t go away with a good skincare routine, make sure to reach out to a doctor who will be able to prescribe you the products or medicine you need.

Hopefully, the above information will help your skin and hair to thrive.
