One of the most exciting stories in the Detroit development right now is the growth in accommodation options for visitors – making Detroit even more desirable for both leisure and business tourism.
The three most recently opened hotels in Detroit include Roost Apartment Hotel (a 117-unit hotel within the remodelled Book Tower), Cambria Hotel (a 154-room boutique hotel downtown), and The Godfrey Hotel (a 227-room Hilton Curio Collection hotel in Corktown).
In addition, the new AC Detroit Hotel is a 153-room, 11-story contemporary hotel in Midtown. Its construction is accompanied by restoration of the historic Bonstelle Theatre next door. Recently, developers announced a rooftop bar addition to the hotel. This is Michigan’s first AC hotel.
Temple Detroit is a $72 million, 101-room hotel development near the Masonic Temple, backed by Brooklyn-based Ennismore design group is underway and due to open later this year.
A new JW Marriott hotel is underway at the site of the former Joe Louis Arena. The massive 600-room, 25-story hotel will include 50,000 square feet of event and meeting space, as well as restaurants and a bar. A skybridge connection to neighbouring Huntington Place convention centre means that Detroit will become that much more sought after for hosting large-scale events – and the hotel itself is anticipated to generate $100 million per year. Opening is planned for 2027.
Recently announced is EDITION, an ultraluxury hotel brand that is part of Marriott International, set for the Hudson’s Site development. The hotel will be in the tower, which now reaches 685.4 feet tall and 45 stories. Developers report that this will be the first five-star hotel in downtown, and it will have over 16,000 square feet of event space as well as a pool, restaurants, fitness centre, and more. Opening has been cited as 2027.
For residents and visitors alike the hotel boom is driving investment in supporting infrastructure, retail spaces, restaurants, and other amenities making Detroit an even more exciting place to be.
