Celebrate in Style: A Private Party Boat in Dubrovnik Awaits!

Right, so here’s the thing about Dubrovnik – everyone tells you about the walls, the old town, Game of Thrones locations… but nobody mentions the bloody queues. Everywhere. Last summer I was there with my partner for our anniversary and honestly? We were getting a bit fed up with the crowds. Then someone mentioned we could book party boat in Dubrovnik and… well, best decision we made that week.

Look, I’ll be honest – I was sceptical. “Party boat” sounds a bit… tacky? But the reviews on GetYourGuide were proper good, and we thought sod it, let’s give it a go. Sometimes you’ve got to take a punt, haven’t you?

What actually happens on the boat?

They leave at half past one. Bit early for a party, you might think, but trust me on this one. The sun’s perfect at that time – warm but not scorching. And the sea… Christ, the sea is something else. Crystal clear, you can see the bottom even when it’s deep.

The DJ knows what he’s doing. Starts off mellow – thank God, because nobody wants hardcore techno at lunchtime. Music builds up gradually as people get into it. Bar’s decent too – proper cocktails, local wine, cold beer. I stuck to the local stuff mostly (when in Rome and all that).

Best bit? Swimming stops. They take you to places where there’s literally nobody else. Hidden coves, beaches you can only reach by boat. Makes you feel like you’ve discovered something secret. Water’s so clear you’ll think your photos are edited.

The locations (and why they matter)

They cruise around the Elaphiti Islands – Koločep, Lopud, Šipan. Each one’s got its own character. Koločep’s green as anything, Lopud’s got these old stone houses that look like film sets, and Šipan… well, Šipan feels like time stopped there.

But the real showstopper? Sailing past Dubrovnik’s walls from the sea. You think they’re impressive from land? From the water they’re… well, they’re bloody magnificent. Rising straight out of the sea like they were just placed there by giants.

Why it works for celebrations

Here’s what I didn’t expect – how intimate it feels. You’re away from all the tourist madness, just you and your group (or in our case, just the two of us) with this incredible backdrop. No distractions, no rushing to the next sight, just… being there.

We met this couple from Manchester who were celebrating their 25th anniversary. Lovely people. And there was a group of lads from Dublin on a stag do – surprisingly well-behaved, actually. Everyone just seemed more relaxed, more genuine than they would be in a crowded restaurant or bar.

Practical stuff (because someone has to mention it)

Book ahead. Seriously. We nearly didn’t get on because we left it too late. Summer’s mental busy.

Bring sun cream. Loads of it. Sea sun is different – stronger somehow. I’m usually careful but still got a bit pink around the edges.

Wear something you don’t mind getting wet. Obvious really, but you’d be surprised how many people turn up in their best clothes.

The sunset (and why it matters)

They get back around seven, just as the sun’s setting. And this is where it gets a bit… well, emotional really. The sky turns these colours that don’t seem real. Everyone goes quiet, just watching. Even the lads from Dublin stopped talking.

My partner and I just stood there, holding hands, watching the sun disappear into the Adriatic. Sounds cheesy, I know, but it was one of those moments you remember forever. The kind that makes you understand why people write poetry about sunsets.

Is it worth the money?

Not cheap, I won’t lie. But for a special occasion? Absolutely. We spent more on dinner at a mediocre restaurant the night before. This was… well, this was something else entirely.

The verdict

Look, Dubrovnik’s beautiful but it can be overwhelming. Too many people, too much rushing about, too much trying to tick boxes. The party boat strips all that away. Just you, the sea, and one of the most beautiful coastlines in Europe.

Would we do it again? Already booked for next year. Same boat, same time, hopefully same weather. Because some experiences are worth repeating, even if they’re never quite the same twice.

If you’re celebrating something special in Dubrovnik, stop overthinking it. Book the boat. Thank me later.
