Join me for a stay at one of York’s most charming boutique hotels, the Hotel du Vin. This is where exquisite interiors, friendly staff, mouth-watering cuisine, and luxurious comfort await.
Hotel du Vin York recently underwent a £900,000 refurbishment, this milestone marks a major chapter in the lifestyle brand’s multi-million-pound revitalization ahead of its 30th-anniversary celebrations.
Let’s set the scene: it was a typical Yorkshire day; cold, grey and rainy. Yet, in the heart of York, Hotel du Vin felt like a welcoming haven of warmth and coziness from the moment we walked through the doors.

Check-in was seamless, thanks to the staff, who greeted us warmly and catered to our every need. Though the receptionist kindly offered to take our bags, I insisted on carrying them myself. She then led us to our room, and it was nothing short of breathtaking.
We stayed in the Belle Epoque, the hotel’s largest and most luxurious suite. This top-floor, open-plan retreat features a super king bed, twin freestanding roll-top baths, and a spacious walk-in monsoon shower – perfect for unwinding and re-energizing. The suite’s elegant design includes a contemporary seating area, an iPod dock, and two large flat-screen TVs.

From the moment we entered, the room felt like home; comfortable, inviting, and with a romantic flair. The twin bath setup was especially delightful, allowing us to relax side by side while indulging in some guilty-pleasure TV. If baths aren’t your thing, the large walk-in shower with dual heads and complimentary toiletries will certainly impress.
After settling in and enjoying the suite’s many amenities, we headed down to Bistro du Vin for dinner. Upon arriving at the bistro, we were greeted by a friendly staff member who escorted us to our table. The restaurant was bright, airy, and vibrant, with an open glass roof – perfect for listening to the rain. The space was decorated with artwork, adding a homely touch, and the well-spaced tables ensured privacy and comfort while dining.
We kicked off the meal with a bottle of Altanza 2016 Rioja, a full-bodied red that paired beautifully with our main courses.

For starters, I savoured the delicious Tiger Prawns (with chili, garlic, and pastis butter), while my partner enjoyed the Sautéed Mushrooms on toasted sourdough. Both dishes were bursting with flavour and impeccably presented.
For the main course, I chose the succulent Rump of Lamb, while my partner opted for the 250g Rib-Eye Steak Au Poivre. Both meals were exceptional, tender, flavourful, and utterly satisfying.
Of course, we couldn’t resist dessert. I indulged in a creamy Crème Brulé, enjoying every velvety bite without sharing a spoonful!

After dinner, we ventured out to the Grand Opera House to catch a comedian, knowing we’d return to the comfort of our super king bed for a peaceful night’s sleep.
The next morning, feeling refreshed and rejuvenated after the best night’s rest, we headed back to Bistro du Vin for breakfast. The buffet offered a variety of cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, and more, along with hot beverages and juices.
For my main breakfast, I chose the Full English. A hearty plate of Cumberland sausage, eggs cooked to order, black pudding, smoked bacon, and a roasted tomato. It was the perfect start to the day.
From start to finish, our experience at Hotel du Vin was exceptional. I highly recommend staying here, it won’t disappoint. I’ll certainly be returning to bask in the hotel’s relaxing, comfortable, and welcoming atmosphere.
See you there!
