360 Hotel Opens in South Iceland

The new 31-room, family-owned hotel combines individually designed rooms, geothermal bathing, seasonal South Icelandic cooking and wide countryside views, just an hour from Reykjavík.

360 Hotel opens its doors today among the farmlands of South Iceland, bringing 31 individually designed rooms and suites, a 350-square-metre geothermal wellness sanctuary, private cinema, cosy communal spaces and seasonal dining to a rural setting one hour from Reykjavík.

Created and owned by two Icelandic families, the hotel is 15 minutes from Selfoss and provides a base for exploring the Golden Circle, South Coast and Vík, with longer day trips possible towards Jökulsárlón. After a day spent exploring, guests can return to fireside spaces, expansive countryside views and Iceland’s changing light each evening.

Interior designer Guðbjörg Anna Árnadóttir, sister of one of the owners, drew on Icelandic buildings and traditions for her inspiration, using timber panelling, turf references, fireplaces, natural materials and tactile textures to create a contemporary sense of shelter. Each of the 31 rooms and suites is individually designed, from 27-square-metre Terrace Rooms to the 100-square-metre, two-bedroom 360 Suite, alongside family-friendly rooms and connecting options. All guestrooms have premium Norwegian beds and heated floors, and are designed with a focus on reading, conversation, music and the surrounding landscape, with no televisions and windows framing the expansive views outside. A private cinema provides an alternative for film nights.

The two owning families can trace their ancestry back to the same great-great-great grandparents, with their shared history reflected in the hotel’s tree-ring logo. This history runs through the hotel in many small and unexpected ways. Guestrooms feature artwork inspired by Rafskinna, an electrically operated “magic book” created by owner Hrefna Bachmann’s grandfather, Gunnar Bachmann, for a Reykjavík shop window in 1932. The original display featured automatically turning pages illustrated by Icelandic artists and became a local Christmas tradition.

At Hnaus Restaurant, Icelandic Chef of the Year 2024 Hinrik Örn Lárusson serves contemporary cooking rooted in the farming traditions of South Iceland. Named after the Icelandic word for “mound”, referring to the land on which the hotel stands, the 80-seat restaurant takes a farm-to-fork approach, with dairy from the local family-run farm Gunnbjarnarholt and lamb from neighbouring farms. The seasonal menu changes according to what is being grown and produced nearby, with chef’s table dinners and gourmet picnics also available.

The 350-square-metre wellness sanctuary has two geothermal hot pools fed by water from a nearby farm, two saunas, including an infrared sauna, cold-plunge facilities, treatment rooms, a gym and yoga studio, all overlooking the surrounding countryside of Iceland. When the aurora appears, the hotel’s Northern Lights Wake Up Service alerts guests, allowing them to enjoy the evening without monitoring the sky.

Rates at 360 Hotel start from £795 per night including breakfast. For more information or to book, visit www.360hotel.com
