Inviting people to eat, drink, sleep and explore from more than 30 sites, 10 of these can be found in the Lake District including the following headline properties.
The Pheasant Inn
Joining The Inn Collection Group in 2020, The Pheasant Inn is a 17th-century coaching inn that provides the perfect base for exploring the Lake District.
Located close to the shores of the only actual lake in the national park, Bassenthwaite Lake (all others are tarns, meres or waters) it has been a staging post for more than 300 years.
Refurbished and restored by The Inn Collection Group after acquisition, the property reopened in October 2021.
Offering dining space for 78 covers inside a series of areas, with a further 80 covers available throughout seven acres of grounds, the inn has retained its original listed bar.
With its red velvet banquettes, oak-panelled walls and eclectic collection of curios, The Inn Collection Group has preserved The Pheasant Inn’s venerable heritage as one of the Lake District’s oldest inns.
The Coniston Inn
Located on the shores of Coniston Water with sensational lake and fell views, this classic Lakeland slate building was the second to be bought by The Inn Collection Group in 2018.
Reopening after an extensive refurbishment and extension in 2020, the site has been welcoming guests for well over a century and as such, has links with many of the famous names associated with Coniston.
Poet and philosopher John Ruskin was a regular guest as were many of his associates including Charles Dickens whilst the hotel was the base for Sir Malcolm Campbell during his successful attempt on the World Water Speed Record in 1939.
Set within extensive grounds, The Coniston Inn boasts a wide expansive paddock to the front, with a sheltered woodland trail leading to its own private jetty on Coniston Water.
From here, pleasure boats from Coniston Launches call on their scheduled “northern service” with seven sailings a day in high summer, reducing to five in the winter.
The Angel Inn
Purchased by The Inn Collection Group in 2020, The Angel Inn is one of the company’s latest refurbishments in Cumbria, having reopened to guests in December 2022.
A property with a near 50-year history of welcoming guests, the former B&B has been converted to create a cosy, classic country inn aimed at families and walkers that boast the all-important features of a well-stocked bar and warming open fires.
Offering a range of accommodations within the main building, the adjacent gatehouse building and Oakbank House opposite, The Angel Inn is Just a hop and a skip away from Bowness-on-Windermere’s bustling streets.
The Angel Inn is an oasis where walkers, dogs, families, and locals alike enjoy this welcoming inn’s relaxed atmosphere, good food and splendid drinks selection.
