‘Tis the Season for Wonderful Winter Escapes

Wonderful at any time of the year, the Yorkshire Dales takes on its own unique beauty during the winter season.  Soft winter light illuminating skeletal trees, frosty meadows and pared back landscapes reveal their stark appeal.

Winter escapes are so uplifting to our health, especially with such natural beauty on the doorstep encouraging us to make the most of shorter days with invigorating walks upon centuries old paths across Bolton Abbey Estate giving us a vital boost of energy and getting the circulation going, whilst calming our mind and lifting our spirits.

And the best part of all is looking forward to an afternoon session in the thermal spa or cosy up with a hot drink or glass of wine by an open fire, after a day spent in nature. Longer evenings are the perfect chance to enjoy savouring delicious seasonal menus, or sip a warming night cap in the cocktail bar –  just the tonic for a good night’s sleep.

The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa invite you to stay and experience all of this and more, with a couple of winter offers – their Winter Foodie overnight stay or their two night Winter Warming Escape.

The midweek stays both include dinner along with a bed and breakfast stay. The Winter Foodie stay invites guests to dine in style in the newly-renovated Garden Room restaurant, which is inspired by a botanical and floral themes, as it looks out over the hotel’s Italian-style courtyard garden. Diners will have the chance to savour the restaurant’s winter season locally-sourced, five course tasting menu, which includes mouth watering dishes such as Yorkshire Beef Wellington and Wild Venison loin.

The two-night Winter Warming Escape includes accommodation, full cooked Yorkshire breakfast on both morning’s and a £45 per night credit in either the hotel’s less formal Brasserie, or the Garden Room restaurant plus the added treat of a nightcap in the hotel’s elegant cocktail lounge, to make the most of after-dinner relaxation beside an open log fire.

Make time to explore the varied terrain of the privately-owned Bolton Abbey Estate beyond the well- known Priory ruins and the iconic stepping stones. There’s over eighty miles of pathways criss-crossing parts of the 30 000 acres of native habitat, including riverside walkways, ancient woodlands, waterfalls, wild moors and craggy outcrops which are stunningly beautiful throughout the year.

The idyllic setting of this country hotel alone makes for a relaxing haven for winter escapes, and the spa housed within an ancient barn across from the hotel is the icing on the cake. The sumptuous spa has a suite of thermal facilities including an indoor heated pool featuring vitality jets and relaxation bubble areas, a pampering pick-me-up after those long country walks.

New on the lead up to Christmas this year are a series of festive markets being held over three weekends (from end of November until mid-December) at The Devonshire Arms – a gorgeous selection of original, quality gifts such as jewellery, home interiors, home-made candles, ceramics and culinary goodies from a carefully selected group of local artisan makers in the Dales, with a pop up bar serving drinks including spicy mulled wine and festive bites.

For those wishing to venture further afield, The Devonshire Arms is ideally located for North Yorkshire’s outstanding natural beauty spots and historic towns such as the Forest of Bowland, and nearby Skipton, Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon and the cosmopolitan city of Leeds.
