Margate has long been the cool seaside resort for the DFL’s (Down from London’s) to flock to. With a short travel time of 1 hour 20 minutes by train from London St Pancras, a beautiful sweeping sandy bay, a revamped Dreamland Theme Park, there is more seaside kitsch fun in Margate than you can shake a stick at it.
The George and Heart House is located right in the heart of Margate’s stylish Old Town, a 2 minute walk from the beach and within easy reach of the vintage shops and stalls selling fresh seafood. This Grade II listed property has been lovingly restored to its former 18th century coaching house glory by owners Kelly Love and Dan Williams (formerly of the successful Ibiza style Tiki Bar in Margate) and let me tell you, they have not held back on the passion.
We stayed in the Heritage Suite which covers the entire first floor of the property. With two bedrooms that sleeps four, an expansive lounge, open kitchen and access to the Old Stables Courtyard.

If Stevie Nicks and The House of Hackney had a baby this would be the result. The space is absolutely epic. As soon as I walked my mind said “let’s party”!
The boutique, bohemian, boho chic vibe is homely yet bold and it was interesting to learn that the whole hotel can be hired for private parties and this space can act as the lounge/meeting area. This would be my dream location, it is the ultimate location for a special occasion.
The rooms on the second floor have been lovingly designed by local artists giving them each their own distinct style. You can have a wild night in Home Alone with Mrs Jones or enjoy some seaside kitsch vibes in Studio Margate. All rooms have access to the residents-only honesty bar, Reggie’s Bar named after owner Kellie’s late father and to the Zen Den where treatments can be booked in advance.

The Bar was really buzzy on a rainy, Monday night with a mix of locals and residents enjoying the delicious eats coming from the kitchen. My fillet steak was cooked to perfection, the burger was epic and the parmesan beignets were to die for. Like a cheesy donuts, they were pure indulgence and simply blissful.

The hotel serves a generous continental breakfast boasting of fresh fruits, meats and cheeses, pastries and cereals which is most enjoyable whilst reading the Margate Mercury.
This is a hotel in Margate for those with an appreciation of interior design, vintage details and cool vibes.
