Step Inside the Great Hall at Blenheim Palace and You’re No Longer in Oxfordshire— You’re in Oz.

Blenheim Palace, with its sweeping baroque drama and unapologetically grand presence has been transformed into a Christmas fairytale. It’s now an immersive world where fantasy wins and every corridor feels like it’s hiding a secret.

I attended Christmas at Blenheim Palace with my sister and my 18 month nephew on opening night and we were all in awe at just how fantastic and festive the palace looked. Having never visited Blenheim Palace before, we were already excited and this year’s theme is truly breathtaking!

The palace’s annual themed transformation is always ambitious. This year’s Palace of Oz feels like the curators broke into a storybook and built it from the inside out. Each room is like a chapter, threaded with emerald greens, glittering golds and is incredibly photogenic, making it a content creators dream.

Not only does the palace become a fully immersive storybook world, but the Light Trail also turns the grounds into a glowing winter vision. The vast lawns have been transformed into galaxies of illumination, the lake reflects neon constellations and the trees are wrapped in colours so vivid they look like they are pressed from the pages of an actual fairy tale. The trail snakes gently through the gardens in a loop and ends at Santa’s house. If you reach the end of the trail at just the right time, you can snap a picture with Santa himself and make sure your desired present is on order with the elves.

It’s sensory, it’s cinematic and makes you feel like you’re slipping into a Christmassy dream. My nephew loved it – as did we!

Like any Christmas market we can’t forget the more traditional offerings. With various stalls full of festive food, drinks and lots of artesian pop ups, you can eat, drink and shop until your hearts content. The ice-skating rink is always a big hit and it is conveniently located next to a covered seated area where you can nibble on your food and watch the action if skating isn’t your forte. It can get a little busy in this area but for me that just adds to the magic and ensures you are in full festive immersion with other humans!

For the thrill seekers, you can ride the on the carousel or take a cubicle on the observation wheel to see the palace from great heights.

Blenheim’s festive season is impressive with sweeping visual storytelling which creates a mood that feels as luxe as a silk ribbon tied around a gift. It’s Christmas reimagined with a touch of fantasy and a generous dash of grandeur. It’s the kind of experience you plan to enjoy once (I promise I’m not a grinch!), but secretly hope it becomes a tradition.

Taking my nephew reminded me why festive experiences matter. Children adore the magic and us adults adore watching them adore it. It’s a rare event that genuinely delights every generation.

Christmas at the Palace is on until Saturday 3rd January 2026 and tickets (and parking) can be booked online on the official Blenheim Palace website.
