Say ‘I Do’ in The Caribbean

An artistic retreat in Nevis is the perfect place to wed in paradise settings. Nevis is a romantic place where Horatio Nelson met and married Fanny Nisbet, so why not choose The Golden Rock Inn for your own nuptials?

Golden Rock is perfectly located for guests to explore the best of Nevis’ natural attractions from waterfalls and hot springs to Nevis Peak and the lush sandy beaches of this 36-square-mile isle. The Caribbean just doesn’t get any more beautiful or romantic.

The island has everything to create the perfect romantic backdrop for the dream wedding. There are plenty of activities to spark romance, from horseback riding on the beach to exploring the botanical gardens. Nevis has it all from picturesque churches, historic plantations, soft, sandy beaches or lush tropical gardens. Nevis mountainside creates a dramatic backdrop for your special day.

Nested in the Gingerland Hills on the verdant slope of Nevis Peak, Golden Rock Inn is a former sugar mill estate dating back to the 1800s. It is an intimate retreat with 11 charming rooms including a honeymoon suite in the sugar mill itself making it perfect for a wedding party. Flora and fauna grow all around the hotel’s 40-acre grounds which boast some of the most stunning tropical gardens on the island.

Owned by New York artists Helen and Brice Marden this is a stylish retreat that makes the perfect backdrop for romance, 1,000 ft above the Atlantic Ocean with stunning views as far as the eye can see. The hotel is experienced in handling destination weddings. The General Manager of the hotel helps you to plan out the entire day, from the food to the logistics of transportation even the flowers and cake, venue and decorations, weaving in the most romantic Caribbean wedding traditions.

The beauty of Golden Rock and its gardens makes for an ideal venue to celebrate your special day. If couples choose to, they can rent out the entire property for their special day, so they can explore the 100-acre grounds. A destination wedding allows events to unfold over a week, so the event is not just over in a day.  Choosing Nevis is romantic, and the island makes for a popular honeymoon destination.

Many lovebirds choose to get married in the pavilion designed by Edward Tuttle and there are 11 rooms for your guests to stay in after the ceremony. Honeymooners will love the sugar mill suite to spend their first days as newlyweds cocooned from the outside world. There are also charming cottages for the rest of the wedding party, with privacy ensured with the surrounding tropical greenery, offering the best views of majestic Mount Nevis and Windward Beach below. One needn’t look further than the hotel’s very own gardens to find an abundance of nature. Meandering paths invite guests to stroll through tropical gardens tastefully designed by Miami landscape architect Raymond Jungles, past the oversized freshwater swimming pool to the new alfresco dining area. Up in the trees, you’ll hear the chatter of verdant monkeys, and you’ll spot hummingbirds flitting between the branches and on the ground, you might discover local donkeys. Golden Rock Inn is a place to relax and the natural health benefits associated with immersion in nature, and the chance to reset, are prime reasons guests choose this property, with one view of the peak and the other of the Atlantic Ocean.

The hotel offers 11 stylish rooms with minimalist furniture, and vivid colours and bold patterns on the upholstery. The Sugar Mill is the most unique property on the island, its tower rising majestically out of the lush foliage. Sprawling across 630sqft it has two floors one room with one king-size bed and another with two twin beds making it perfect for families. There’s also a sitting area and a terrace where you can enjoy the views of Windward Beach whilst enjoying a Caribbean rum on ice. Design accents include bright red shutters which strike harmoniously against the antique stone walls.  King-sized beds can be found in the romantic Paradise Cottage, designed in the typical Caribbean style with a large terrace that invites the outside in.  Alternatively, the Hillside Rooms feature stunning garden views and king-sized beds or twins across four duplex cottages. And finally, the Garden Room is a stunning West Indies-style cottage with a queen-sized bed and bathroom as well as a porch.

Golden Rock Inn has a remarkable reputation for food and prides itself on its fresh seafood. Fresh fish and lobster come from local fishermen, tropical fruits and vegetables from neighbouring growers. Lively Caribbean cuisine is paired with global flair at The Rocks, one of the best gourmet culinary experiences on the island, helmed by James Eaton. Specialties include lobster sandwiches, with plantain fries and conch chowder. Breakfasts include local wahoo benedict and a vegan chickpea omelette. Tropical fruits and vegetables are sourced from the local market. Breakfast lunch, and dinner are served alfresco on dining decks overlooking the sea or within intimate garden settings. Under stone vaulted ceilings, the bar serves signature cocktails such as the Mount St. Helena and Golden Rock’s renowned Rum Punch. Guests can enjoy the calm reflection of the spring-fed pools, surrounded by the flora and fauna and the sounds of nature as they enjoy the beauty of the hotel’s wonderful botanical gardens.

After the wedding, Nevis itself is an exciting place to honeymoon, with an emphasis on both relaxation and adventure. Thrill-seeking couples can spend their first days as newlyweds hiking through lush rainforest and geothermal fields to the hot springs where they can soak in its healing mineral waters surrounded by nature. Golden Rock can arrange poolside yoga, or more adventurous activities such as a thrilling journey off-road in a Funky Monkey all-terrain vehicle.
